Born in Lagos to the family of former senator Grace Bent and Jackson Bent. Her father is from Adamawa state, while her mother is from Osun State by birth. Meet Her Mother, Grace Folashade Bent
Jackie B is the daughter of Grace Folashade Bent, a former senator during the 2007 to 2011 session, and she represented Adamawa South constituency in Adamawa State. She studied English and literary studies at the University of Calabar for her first degree. For her second degree, she got a degree in Political science from the same university and a Ph.D. in Public Administration.
Mrs. Bent, nee Makinwa, is from Osun State, while her husband is from Adamawa State. This actually caused a rift she had with Barr. A. T Shehu, who was the State’s PDP chairman. He called her a non-indigene of the state; well, she wouldn’t have it, and therefore, called him out on it. When she won the senatorial seat in 2007, she was quite celebrated, a Yoruba woman representing Adamawa State.
She contested for the second term and lost to Ahmed Hassan Barata in the primaries. In some quarters, some think it’s not unconnected to the fact that she’s a female and not from the state by birth. She felt that she was maltreated and took the case to court. In the end, she lost. Senator Bent is no longer a member of PDP. She is currently a member of the ruling All Progressive Congress, making her the first female senator from Adamawa to decamp to APC.
She was formerly a member of PDP before she defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress. However, she’s not been back in the house since her defection.
