Chidinma Ojukwu (Real name Chidinma Blessing Echefu, born March 3, 2000) is a 23 year old Nigerian student of the University of Lagos State who became famous for the murder of the CEO of Super TV, Michael Usifo Ataga.
Chidinma became famous after the Nigerian Police paraded her as a prime suspect in the murder case of Usifo Ataga. Her emergence into the limelight has sparked people’s quest to know more about her background and personality.
Chidinma Ojukwu Hails from Imo State, South East Nigeria
Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu was born in Lagos State, where she apparently spent most of her early years, but she is Igbo and was born to her parents who are indigenes of Imo state, Southeast Nigeria, and not Abia state as the 23 murder suspect earlier noted. Not much is known about Chidinma’s family, but she is said to have siblings, one of which is her sister Chioma Egbuchu.
Chidinma and her siblings were raised by their mother as their father passed away when she was just two years old. Her mother later remarried and raised them in the African and Christian way of life. While Chidinma later stayed away from her family, it is said that the rest of her siblings lived together with their mother in the Mowe area of Ogun State.
Talking about Chidinma’s education, she received her primary and secondary education at Johnson’s Primary school and Government secondary school, both located in Mushin, Lagos State. Chidinma later gained admission to study Mass Communication at the University of Lagos. She was in her third year when she was arrested for the murder of Mr. Ataga.
Chioma Ojukwu’s Real Name is Chidinma Blessing Echefu
While many have come to know her as Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu, sources have revealed that the 300-level student of the University of Lagos is actually named Chidinma Blessing Echefu. It is said that the 23 year-old prime suspect in the murder saga disowned her family due to some misunderstanding she had with her mother.
One of the major steps she took to disassociate herself from her family was to change her original name from Chidinma Blessing Echefu to Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu. The relationship between Chioma and her mother was not so cordial as Chioma became rebellious. She was even alleged to have been discovered to be smoking when she was barely 11 years.
This provoked her mother, who then sent her to live with her uncle in Mushin. She was later kicked out by her uncle, who could not condone her rebellious acts. It was at this point that she met Onoh Ojukwu, who took her into his home in Yaba. Her sister Chioma further revealed that Ojukwu was in no way related to her family.
How Chidinma Ojukwu Met and Murdered Usifo Ataga
Although there were no direct answers from either Chidinma or Ataga on how they met, a police investigation of the murder trial revealed that the two met at a party in Victoria Island, Lagos, and were introduced by Chidinma’s friend’s boyfriend, identified as Tony. The two became intimate, and a sexual relationship followed afterward.
Michael Usifo Ataga, a well-known businessman in his area, hails from Edo State and was born on June 19, 1971. Usifo was married to Brenda Ataga Usifo, although reports have it that the two have been separated and living apart for 5 years. The two had children together, but while Brenda and the kids lived in Abuja, Michael lived in their Banana Island home in Lagos.
In an interview with the police, Chidinma admits to receiving a call from Mr. Ataga on June 12, 2021, and on his request, she left to meet the deceased on the 13th. The two dated for six months, meeting out and sharing intimate moments together. In one of their meetings, she recollected that she made a call for Marijuana and another drug called Rohypnol- a tablet she said could easily knock out whoever uses it. This, according to her, was brought to their apartment.
After smoking, the deceased asked for more sex, which she denied him. This led to a heated argument, with Usifo allegedly knocking her head against a stool that had a glass. Sustaining head and knee injuries, Dinma managed to lay her hands on a kitchen knife with which she used to stab the deceased in the neck twice. She confessed that she stabbed him severally without counting, and the deceased eventually fell to the floor in the room. The murder happened at an apartment at Angel Villa Hotel in Lekki Phase 1 on June 17, 2021, a few days to the deceased’s 50th birthday.
Usifo Ataga was the founder and CEO of Super TV, a streaming entertainment platform providing movies, shows, news, and documentaries, established in April 2014. Until his death, he was the Director of Super Network Limited, a telecommunications firm based in Nigeria, West Africa.
Chidinma’s Arrest and Charges Against Her
Chidinma Ojukwu was arrested by the police on 23 June 2021. She was arrested along with a co-defendant, Adedapo Quadri, and was arraigned before Yetunde Adesanya, a judge at the Lagos State High Court. The duo were arraigned on eight counts of charges bordering on conspiracy, murder, stabbing, forgery, making of bank statements, and stealing.
These charges, according to the prosecution, contravened Sections 411, 233, 365 (2)b, 280, 329 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. The suspect and her father were first arrested at their residence at No. 57, Akinwunmi Street, Alagomeji, Yaba. She was then paraded at the command headquarters in the Ikeja area of Lagos, where she confessed to stabbing the 50-year-old Super TV CEO to death on June 15, 2021.

Although Chidinma and Mr. Ataga’s case generated some mixed feelings, with many finding it hard to come to terms with the circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder of the Super TV CEO, praises were showered on the Lagos State Police Command for the timely arrest of the prime suspect in the murder case.
However, the dust from this story has refused to settle as several conspiracy theories about the sad occurrence continue to churn out. One of these theories describes the murder case as a set up by Ataga’s wife and his lover, with Chidinma being pictured as a pawn in the killing. Others accuse the UNILAG student of murdering the businessman because of the money she discovered in his account in yet another flying account.
