A 20-year-old British transgender, Hayden Cross, who was born a girl called Paige has shockingly revealed he is pregnant, a first in Britain.
Cross who wants to be a single dad did not ask for the real name of the father of his child, after finding a sperm donor on Facebook.
Speaking to The Sun UK, the 17 weeks pregnant dad-to-be said he’s looking forward to becoming a father but the physical changes haven’t been easy.
“I was happy but I also knew it would be backtracking on my transition. It is a very female thing to carry a baby and it goes against everything I feel in my body. I wanted the kid now so that I can have the transition before I get old.”
Hayden Cross has lived the past three years as a man after legally changing his name and gender, and has begun hormone treatment under the NHS in England, but his transition process can’t be completed until he has his baby.
After his child is born, he will return to the clinic and continue his gender-transition process. The next stage will involve removing Hayden’s breasts before his ovaries are then taken out.
Hayden claims the NHS England refused to foot his £22.72million bill so he could delay in having children.
After the NHS rejection letters, Hayden considered freezing his eggs at a private clinic but couldn’t afford the £1,000 consultation fee and average £5,000 cost to freeze eggs per cycle.
Raised by his parents in Gloucester, Cross the second of four siblings was educated at an all-girls school, but was excluded when he was just 14 years old.
The world’s first pregnant dad is 42-year-old Thomas Beatie, who is now a dad-of-three after first becoming pregnant in 2007. Sadly, Beatie lost the triplets to ectopic pregnancy but went on to have three kids using donor sperm.
Thomas, of Phoenix, Arizona, US, was born a female but had hormone treatment while keeping his female reproductive organs.
In 2011, Britain’s unnamed first “male mother” gave birth to a girl.
