Veteran Nollywood actor, Zack Orji, has joined the raging debate on religious tithing and explained why tithing should not be condemned.
In a recent interview with Broadway TV, Zack Orji who disclosed that he has been a pastor for five years said he pities those that say bad things about pastors and condemn tithing. His words:
“I am a pastor, ordained for five years now. The issue of tithing is a personal thing.
“I get very careful about making certain statements. I have watched some people condemn tithing, say a lot of things about men of God and I pity some of those people because they are speaking out of ignorance.
“The Bible says my people have gone into captivity because they lack knowledge.
“It is a terrible thing to go on the social media and be condemning men of God and be condemning something that is in the bible.
“That’s what I can say about tithing for now. But if you think as a person that it is not for you, go ahead and live your life as you choose.”

Similarly, popular comedian Ali Baba has also waded into the contoversy, arguing that if pastors interpret the Bible based on what suits them, then tithes can be negotiated.
Ali Baba who stressed that pastors now alter the Bible to suit them also opined that any pastor who assents to same-sex marriage is a sinner and therefore has no right to preach the Gospel. In a lengthy post on his Instagram page, Ali Baba wrote:
“If any PASTOR agrees that a man can marry a man and that a woman can marry a woman… something that is not in the bible, then he has no right to preach about sin.
“In fact, he has lost the right to call anyone a sinner. Because, it can not be only tithes that can not be changed. People keep permitting everything and harpping on the one that suits them. If you agree that men can marry men, then we can begin to negotiate tithes.
“I know many are afraid to speak on this matter. But the truth is there… It’s not going away. Come and be drumming into my ears “God said…” “It is written” “God is always right” “But we should let people decide their partners”. No argument.
“You said God says man shall not steal. BUT A MAN WHO HAD NOTHING goes into politics. One term down, he builds a mansion that his 20 years salary as a politician, can not fund or afford. But you go pray to open the house, all the same and dedicate it to God.
“GOD SAID pay your tithe. And you say that is sacrosanct. Can I decide who to give it to? You say no. But God said a man must leave his parents and cling to a woman, you are accepting alterations. Kwuanteeenuuuu.”
OAP Daddy Freeze has been championing the tithing controversy through his #FreeTheSheeple Movement which has been generating reactions from various men of God.
