Tagbo died on the eve of his birthday at a bar in Lekki, Lagos and the mystery surrounding his death was made public by a Nigerian actress, Caroline Danjuma, who had, through an Instagram post, accused Davido of dumping Tagbo’s corpse at the General Hospital, Lagos, after he allegedly died in his (Davido’s) car.
According to the police, late Tagbo’s autopsy report revealed that he died from suffocation and not alcohol intoxication. The police say they have recovered the vehicle used in dumping Tagbo’s body. The vehicle was recovered from Davido’s house and arrests have been made.
The state commissioner of police, Imohimi Edgal, stated this at a briefing in Lagos on Wednesday, Oct. 11, disclosing that Davido has been re-invited for questioning.
Davido is currently under fire for allegedly lying to the police that he did not know how his deceased friend got to the Lagos General Hospital premises.
During investigation, Davido had reportedly told the investigative team that he was not at Shisha Bar, from where the deceased was rushed and dumped at the Lagos Island General Hospital. Rather, he said he left the bar for DNA Night Club in Victoria Island area of the state, where he was informed about Umeike’s death.
However, while briefing newsmen on the update of the investigation, the Commissioner of Police disclosed that preliminary investigation showed that late Umeike was rushed to the hospital on David’s instruction. Consequently, David was invited for interrogations.
Edgal told reporters that a Close Circuit Television (CCTV) footage from the hospital proved that Tagbo was brought in dead (BID) by Davido’s escort driver, Tunde Usutu, and two of Davido’s friends, Agbeje Olaoye and Idris Busari, according to PremiumTimes.
The police said the men abandoned the deceased inside his ash Toyota Camry LSD378EL on the instruction of Davido. According to Edgal, Davido, his friends and the escort driver were being questioned by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
“To be objective and verify facts, I called for a pre-investigation meeting in my conference room. In attendance were all parties including family, friends of the deceased; those of Davido; Caroline Danjuma; the DPO and investigating officers.
“The meeting confirmed that the deceased on that day met and had drinks with friends at Shisha Bar amongst whom was Davido. The bar tender confirmed the deceased had as much as 40 tots of Tequila and exhibited signs of drunkenness.
“The CCTV footage also confirmed this. Davido had reportedly told the police he had left Shisha Bar for DNA Night Club in Victoria Island without the deceased and was only informed by mutual friends of his death while he was at DNA.
“However, police investigation revealed that Davido’s white Toyota Hilux escort driver, Tunde Usutu, accompanied by one Agbeje Olaoye and one Idris Busari, both Davido’s friends, took the deceased to the General Hospital Lagos and abandoned him in his vehicle on the instruction of Davido.
“The CCTV footage at the hospital picked the escort vehicle and the entire activity. The vehicle was recovered from Davido’s residence at 7, Awoshika Street, Lekki Phase 1.
“This completely debunks Davido’s claim that he did not know how the deceased got to the General Hospital,” the commissioner said.
Davido has responded to the police invitation, as he was seen at the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, in the company of his lawyer.
The singer has also reacted to the allegations that he was involved in Tagbo’s death. With accusations, counter-accusations and an alleged autopsy result, Davido insists that he is innocent of all malicious media publications against him. On Snapchat, Davido wrote:
“My heart is rare and the world knows! Please God, keep my heart the same! Please don’t give me a change of heart Lord! I shall remain a giving being, amen!
“Lies everywhere… Due to respect for Tagbo and his family, I haven’t spoken about the issue since. Soon, a statement and footage will be released. Enough is enough. God bless you guys! Everyone be safe please.
“Bloggers una go soon tire.”
It will be recalled that three days after Tagbo’s death, two other associates of Davido– DJ Olu, 25, and Chime Amaechi – were found lifeless in the singer’s BMW car parked in the underground garage of Block B, Banana Island, Lagos.
