Former Central Bank Governor and Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari to stop blaming the immediate past regime for the Nation’s economic challenges.
This new stance is a clear change in tone from the former CBN Boss who in April categorically blamed the Jonathan Administration for the present economic downturn.
The Emir, who was the Chairman, Special Session at the 15th Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development Planning, said the Buhari-led administration may end like the Jonathan’s administration if it continued to play the blame game.
Sanusi stated that the inability of the government to create employment for youths, had created terrorism in the country.
Lamido Sanusi said:
“There is nothing we are facing today that we did not know would happen. We made mistakes, many of them deliberate. We ignored every single warning.”
”We should not continue to blame the previous administration, as we have also made some mistakes in the current administration.”
“We must retrace our steps; otherwise we may fall into the same trap we fell the last time when the government was always right.”
“The bottom line is that if your policy is wrong, it is you that must change.”
This comes against a back drop of constant blame trading by top officials of the Muhammadu Buhari led government who have resorted to laying the blame of the current economic travails on the doorstep of the previous government.
