Soldiers reportedly invaded Kurutie (a.k.a Little London), a community in Gbaramatu kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, in six gunboats at about 4.30 am, today (Monday), hunting for members of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA).
The residents were said to be asleep when they came, but many scampered into the bush when heard the sound of the gunboats. The soldiers, who quickly cordoned the community, embarked on a house to house search. A resident who confirmed the incident to Vanguard over the phone at about 5:30 am this morning said:
“I am looking at the soldiers from a hideout in the bush, they are going from house to house. We know their tactics, so we ran away when they landed this morning at the jetty in the town, belonging to Tompolo’s father.
The military were also reported to have invaded Tompolo’s home and Gbaramatu communities on Saturday in search of him and member of the Niger Delta Avengers(NDA). Tompolo has denied having any link with the NDA, saying that he is neither a member or a sponsor of the group.
He is reported to have urged the NDA in a letter,to put an end to the act of pipeline vandalism, as it will not do the country any good, especially considering the critical period of the economic. He has however, maintained he has no hands in the destruction of crude oil facilities in the Niger Delta region.
Meanwhile,the Nigerian Army on Sunday said it arrested 10 suspected militants and pipeline vandals in the Niger Delta region. Commander, 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Benin City, Farouk Yahaya, who disclosed this while addressing journalists said the suspects were arrested during a cordon and search exercise conducted in Oporozoa community and its environs in Delta State.
