A shocking report confirms ex-Chelsea coach, Jose Mourinho has been named as the new Nigeria Super Eagles’ coach as he affirmed he was pleased to coach the three-time African champions. The Portuguese, who left the London-based Chelsea Football club unceremoniously has officially been named the new Super Eagles head coach following the departure of interim Samson Siasia.
Jose Mourinho has signed a four-year contract and is tasked with qualifying the Super Eagles for the 2018 World Cup since they missed out of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations billed for Gabon. His backroom staff would include: Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Peter Rufai, Mutiu Adepoju, all top Nigerian football legends.
This follows the failure of interim coach Samson Siasia to pull the national team through the two leggede qualifeir for the AFCON 2017 an s also the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President’s insistence of hiring a foreign cioach for the country’s senior male footbal team.
Why the legendary Portugese and serial winner would take up the Super Eagles job, having been rumored to be joinuing Manchester United of England is yet to be deduced, but according to BuzzNigeria, Mourinho said:
“I have the pleasure to confirm I have committed to a legendary African side, with the massive challenge of qualifying for the Russia 2018 World Cup. I am lucky because for years I had the fortune to coach big teams like Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, and now I have the opportunity to coach another big team like Nigeria with super stars such as Mikel (Obi) and Victor (Moses), whom I have worked with at Chelsea. It is an honour and I want to keep winning.
“We have a duty to prove we are the best team in Africa and also do well at the 2018 World Cup. I’d like to thank the NFF for believing in me and with their backing, I am confident that we can build a stronger Super Eagles.”
Jose Mourinho will be unveiled at media conference today at the Abuja National Stadium, where he will address the media for the first time.
