Segilola Ogidan Biography: Inside the Life of the Nollywood Actress

Segilola Ogidan (born on 9th October 1985; Age; 38 years old) is a Nigerian actress, director, writer, and filmmaker known for her role as Ajiks in A Naija Christmas, a 2021 Netflix movie.

Having been in the Nigerian film industry for over a decade, Segilola has showcased her skills in acting and is considered one of the very talented actresses in the Nollywood industry. Since 2009 when she made her acting debut in the United Kingdom, Segilola has appeared in several Nigerian movies following her return to Nigeria. She has also as won a couple of awards for her successful works.

How Old is Segilola Ogidan and Where is She From?

Segilola Ogidan was born on 9th October 1985, in Ondo State. She is a native of Arigidi Akoko in Ondo State, southwestern part of Nigeria. Segilola is currently 38 years old. By ethnicity, she is Yoruba.

The actress was born into a financially average Christian family and her parents were active members of their church.

However, recounting her childhood days, Segilola said that she was a daddy’s girl who always wanted to go everywhere with him. According to Segi, her growing up was so much fun. They had a large field in front of their house, and she, alongside her sisters and neighbors’ kids, would always go out to play.

Segilola Ogidan’s Educational Journey

Segilola received her primary school education at Laurel Nursery and Primary School in Isolo, Lagos. She then went to Vivian Fowler Secondary School, Surulere, Lagos, where she completed her secondary school. After that, Segilola moved to the UK and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Media Arts and Filmmaking from the Royal Holloway University, London.

Thereafter, she proceeded to acquire a Master’s Degree in Cinema Studies at the University of Bristol, United Kingdom, and majored in screenwriting. Meanwhile, Segilola’s parents had wished for her to become a medical doctor, but according to the actress, she hates hospitals and detests the sight of blood. After all, they supported her own choice of discipline, and today, everyone is happy with where she is now in her career.

Segilola Ogidan Started Acting in 2009 in the UK

The Ondo State-born actress had an interest in dramatic arts from childhood. Growing up in a Christian home, Segilola’s passion began as a result of several roles she played in her local church drama group back then. She took up stage plays and also participated in school dramas. Upon graduating from the university, she started going for movie auditions.

Meanwhile, she briefly worked as a development executive in a film sales and distribution company in London. There, she majorly focused on script writing and developing stories that are acted in theatrical films. She also served as an internship student for a movie company. Actually, Segilola started her professional career in the UK after her studies.

In 2009, she landed her first role in Peter Pan at The Kings Head Theater, a movie directed by Stephanie Sinclaire. In the same year, she was lucky to grab a short-term job on a series and did a few theatre movies, and that was how she became a professional UK actress.

Segilola did a good number of movies and theatre shows in the UK before she eventually moved back to Nigeria with the aim of continuing as an actress. Speaking in an interview, she revealed that one of the biggest sacrifices she has made for her career is moving back to Nigeria. At the time she moved, she had just started getting the recognition she worked so hard for over the years. However, she admitted that the Nigerian movie scene has so far been gracious to her to an extent, but the category of work she gets is nothing to be compared to that of the UK.

Back in Nigeria, Segilola Ogidan Has Become an Established Actress

Regardless, Segilola Ogidan has, since her return to Nigeria, featured in a lot of successful movies. One of her recent and most prominent appearances is in A Naija Christmas, released on 16th December 2021. This is a Nigerian Christmas film that tells the story of two guys who were obligated by their mother to bring home their potential wives for Christmas in order to inherit the family home.

Of course, they didn’t have any suitors at hand and so went on a quest to find their perfect woman. In the movie, she played the beautiful and sassy “Ajike” aka Ajiks baby, who is Ugo’s (Kunle Remi) love interest. In 2022, her performance as the star actor in A Naija Christmas earned her a nomination for the NET honor award in the category breakout actress of the year.

Segilola is also popular for the movies Fault Lines, Tainted Canvass on Amazon, wherein she acted in the character of Rayo, and The Men’s Club, a RED TV series where she acted in the role of Tonye. Her excellent and unique ways of interpreting roles earned her quick popularity in the industry. Significantly, she is the founder and CEO of the movie production outfit called OKP Productions.

Segilola Ogidan is Married with Two Children

Segilola Ogidan is happily married to her husband Bola Ogidan. From the marriage, she is blessed with two boys. Mr. Bola Ogidan was a former Iroko TV partner’s general manager and is currently a cofounder of Pirano Energy. It is not public knowledge where and how the couple met, but they eventually tied the knot in a white wedding ceremony in 2012. So far, the marriage has lasted for 11 years and is peaceful.

Even though the actress does not bring information about her husband and children to the news, she always expresses on her social media pages the amount of love she has for her family. In her own words: “I can’t trade them for anything.”

Sometime in the past, actress Segilola divulged that being married affects some of the movie roles she accepts. She said that she does not do X-rated scenes but only keeps it PG/12 in regard to her husband and inlaws.
