This is What Happens When Artistes Bridge Contract With Record Label

Just like DJ Zeez, Runtown has put himself in a tight situation with his own record label, as they take him to court.

Signing a contract with a label is like wedding your spouse in court. You don’t dare play smart on your partner else it will backfire.

Afro Pop Singer, Runtown, A.K.A Douglas Jack-Agu, was served a court injunction by his label following claims of fraudulent practices. According to reports, the injunction was served by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, and prevents the rising musical artiste from recording songs or performing at any event unless approved by his record label.

Runtown is signed under the Ericmany Entertainment label. They currently have copyright to all his music. He was sued by Ericmany on allegations that he signs up, concludes and attends musical shows without the knowledge of the label.

Ericmany Entertainment was said to have invested millions of naira on Runtown. However, trouble started when Runtown connived with Bug Media, ran by one Bugwu Aneto, to sideline his label and collect money directly for shows without the knowledge of Ericmany.

Bug Media is also a party to the court case. The management of Ericmany has sacked Runtown’s ally, Bugwu Aneto as General Manager of the company for infractions which are connected to his allegiance with the singer to shortchange the Label.

Henceforth, all inquiries about the artiste and his bookings for shows would no longer be through Aneto but through the management of Ericmany.

So far, the said artiste has not made any comment about the pending issue. However, it will be better if he takes a lesson from Brymo and pleads with his record label to settle the matter outside court.
