President Obama celebrated his 55th birthday on Thursday 4th August 2016.
This would be his last birthday as president of the Unites States of America and resident of the White House.
Barack Obama celebrated the day in a rather bitter-sweet fashion, with wife Michelle and daughters Sasha and Malia, while reflecting on his seventh year in office.
President Obama’s wife Michelle was one of the first to greet her husband on social media.
Michelle Obama shared a lovely photo of the couple.
Alongside the image of the president flashing a cheesy grin, Michelle wrote:
“55 years young and that smile still gets me every single day. Happy birthday, Barack. I love you.
The photo was taken at the White House in May this year when Barack and Michelle were waiting for leaders to arrive for the Nordic state dinner.

Barack and Michelle, who have been married for 24 years have two daughters Malia and Sasha.
They never cease to praise each other in public and share intimate displays of affection.
The First Lady recently gave an emotion-laden speech at the Democratic National Convention in July, where she heaped praises on Barrack while supporting Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
“It’s hard to believe that it has been eight years since I first came to this convention to talk with you about why I thought my husband should be president.
“Remember how I told you about his character and conviction, his decency and his grace? The traits that we’ve seen every day since he’s served our country in the White House.”
“I also told you about our daughters,” she added.
“We urge them to ignore those who question their father’s citizenship or faith.
“How we insist that the hateful language they hear from public figures on TV does not represent the true spirit of our country.
“We explain when someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you do not stoop to their level. Our motto is when they go low you go high.”
After the speech, Barack took to Twitter to write:
“Incredible speech by an incredible woman. Couldn’t be more proud & our country has been blessed to have her as FLOTUS. I love you, Michelle.”
President Obama’s Twitter page was decorated with balloons and called for Americans to sign his 55th birthday card.
