The race is on for who will be the Premier League Top Scorer this season.
Contenders for the top scorer position at the moment are Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane.
The big question remains, who will be this season’s top scorer in the Premier League?
Let’s take a look at the chances and weigh all the contenders on the basis of their current form and previous performance.
Everton striker, Romelu Lukaku had a goal avalange against Bournemouth on Saturday .
He netted four goals, pushing up to the top of the goal-scoring charts.
With 16 goals in his kitty, Lukaku overtakes Alexis Sanchez, Diego Costa and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
All three contenders have 15 goals each to their credit.
Tottenham striker, Harry Kane despite being two goals behind Lukaku is one of two joint favourites in the already heated top scorer race.
Kane is a strong contender for a couple of reasons.
One of them being that, last season, he breezed past Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy to clinch the top scorer award with 25 goals.
Kane also has the best goal-per-minute ratio among all the top five contenders this season.
He also has a goal scoring average of 1 goal every 116 minutes, putting him ahead of top contender, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Zlatan has a goal scoring average of 1 goal every 138 minutes.
35-year-old Ibrahimovic is the focal point of United’s attack and overall game strategy.
His silky and imposing nature have enabled him score a total of 15 goals to date this season.
Since breaking through his goal drought mid-season, the Swede has scored nine goals in his last 12 Premier League appearances.
Chelsea’s Diego Costa will be hoping to beef up his goal tally on Sunday when Chelsea face Burnley.
Costa seems to be having a goal drought of late following a drop by coach Conte, despite Chelsea’s relentless run towards the Premier League title.
Last but not least major premier league top scorer contender, Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, is very much on course for the spot.
The 23-year-old, who seems set to surpass his personal best of 17 goals in one season.
Sanchez has now reached double figures in the league for a fifth straight season.
He is presently the hottest striker in the premier league based on his recent form.
Over the weekend, the Arsenal points-man got his second hat-trick of the season against Bournemouth.
He now has scored seven goals in his last six matches.
PREMIER LEAGUE TOP SCORER CONTENDERS IN TIGHT RACE
A slight twist in Sanchez’s role this season has yielded some positive returns for Arsene Wenger’s side with a spike in his goal return suggesting a right move from Wenger.
The Arsenal man looked all clear to clinch the Golden Boot in December but that seems very unlikely as the likes of Lukaku and Kane have closed the gap.
Other contenders for the Premier League Top Scorer this season are the like of Jermain Defoe and Sergio Aguero.
Defoe has made an impressive performance this season for his relegation-threatened side, Sunderland hauling in 14 out of their 24 goals this season.
History, however, is not in his favour as no player has even won the Premier League Golden Boot for a team that was relegated in the same season.
The only exception being Andy Johnson who scored 21 goals for Crystal palace in the 2005/06 season who still ended up relegated that season.
Last but not least is Sergio Aguero with a toal of 11 goals leaving him in a tough position to contend.
Another major hindrance to Aguero’s flow is the emergence of Gabriel Jesus.
Jesus has kept him out of the Manchester City side in the last two games, making his top scorer chances even tougher.
His goal per minutes ratio which stands at 122, better only by Kane makes him a contender to watch out for.
