Brief History of Babcock University

Babcock University was established in 1959 by Seventh-day Adventist Church. Upon its establishment, it went by Adventist College of West Africa. Its name was later changed in 1975 to Adventist Seminary of West Africa before its current name. It was named after David C. Babcock, an American missionary and pioneer of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The University got its accreditation from the Nigerian University Commission in 1999.

The school’s main campus is located at Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria, while its mini campus is located at Iperu, Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria. He has been one of the spines for the development of Nollywood in the country. Besides his acting profession, Alex is also a film director and a businessman.

Alex Usifo completed his primary education in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Just after the civil war ended, his family moved to Edo State, where he attended St. John Bosco’s Grammar School, Ubiaja, Edo State. He acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Ambrose-Ali University, Edo State, and earned his Master’s degree from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology. It was at Babcock that Alex Usifo did his Ph.D. program in Information Resources Management.

His father paid the University management to set up a music department just for his son, and in 2015, the music star joined the list of Babcock university alumni after graduating with a degree in Music. Studying Music only helped him get better in the career path he will choose for himself, even though his father wanted him to go into business. She completed her Master’s degree from the prestigious Babcock University before proceeding to the Federal University of Technology, and Obafemi Awolowo University for her Ph.D. and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, respectively.

Adenike’s work and enthusiasm for youth and the environment have taken her to the most notable countries in the world. To make environmentalism a part of the everyday experience of Nigerians, Adenike started the Green Campus Initiative. The initiative began at the Adeyemi College Campus, a college of Obafemi Awolowo University, where she is a lecturer. This Babcock Unversity alumnus is currently known as the Senior Fellow of Environment and Sustainable Development at the Institute for Oil, Gas, Energy, Environment, and Sustainable Development at Afe Babalola University, Nigeria.

Adenike wrote a book titled The Principles of Green and Sustainability Science (2020). The book, which offers feasible solutions for the problems besetting our society, especially the environment and unemployment, is recognized as the first sustainability text to deal exclusively with sustainability issues in Africa. Adenike is also known as the founder of the Girl Prize, which provides financial and mentorship support for young Nigerian secondary school girls with an interest in the sciences.
