Oshiomole’s Former Aide Emerges PDP Governorship Candidate


The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as it’s flag bearer candidate for the September 10 governorship election in Edo State.

In the result of the primaries announced by Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, Chairman of the electoral committee that conducted the exercise, Ize-Iyamu polled 584 votes defeating two other contenders.

His closest contender, Mr Mathew Uduoeyekemwen, polled 91 votes while Chief Solomon Edebiri polled 38 votes coming third.

Based on the result from the primaries, Osagie Ize-Iyamu has been declared winner of the election this afternoon.

Mr Ize-Iyamu was Secretary to the State Government during former governor of the state, Chief Lucky Igbinedion’s administration of 1999 to 2007. He was also the South-South leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before defecting to the PDP in 2014.

Pastor Osahgie Izie-Iyamu Picks PDP Governorship Ticket

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held its own primary election to choose its governorship candidate for the September 10, 2016 Edo state governorship election.

The PDP Primary Election Committee was presided over by the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr Dave Umahi.

The primary election to decide the PDP’s contender in September 10 poll was held on Monday at the Lawn Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

About 740 delegates were accredited under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Monday, June 20, in Benin City, in order to elect the sole candidate of the party for the Edo state governorship poll.

The exercise is in preparation for the governorship election in Edo State scheduled for Saturday, September 10th 2016.

The contenders for the PDP gubernatorial ticket who purchased the party’s nomination forms at the PDP’s headquarters in Benin at N16 million were Chief Solomon Edebiri, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Mr Mathew Uduoeyekemwen, all from Edo South.
