Interns: NNPC offers internship that lasts from three months to two years which opens up an opportunity for training and learning in different fields and departments. This program allows applicants to join the organization and teaches them the practical aspects of their different areas of specialization.

Entry Level: One of the major ways through which NNPC recruits its staff is Entry-level. These categories of workers are graduates who are recruited newly into the company. NNPC prefers to call this position according to their profession so that you can have things like account officers, sales officers, etc. Note that NNPC does not conduct yearly recruitment into entry-level but does that only when the need arises.

Experience Staff/Managers: This employment category comprises workers who have over the years garnered experience from areas related to their professional fields, attended a series of symposiums, and attained a satisfactory height in the organization. A professional in a given field has a good chance of being hired on this level.

Criteria For Promotion

Given the enormous work and other responsibilities handled by the NNPC, it is of utmost importance to get only the right people at the key positions. Over the years, NNPC has continued to restate that it firmly holds onto integrity and never compromises when it comes to promoting its staff or hiring new ones.

According to NNPC, the major things they consider while recruiting fresh graduates or promoting experienced hands include impeccable academic results, ability to meaningfully participate in problem-solving, competence, logical thinking, and federal character.

Then, after getting into the organization, career progression and promotion do not come automatically, especially in the management cadre. To get a promotion in the management cader, NNPC looks for verifiable track records of performance, accountability, transparency, professional competence, and the ability to ensure national circulation in high-ranking positions. These criteria are non-negotiable and are followed critically.

Breakdown of NNPC Salary Structure

There is no denying the fact that NNPC salary is one of the major reasons many Nigerians want to work with them. NNPC is one of the country’s most paid and lucrative federal government agencies. It pays its workers very attractively, which has made many people clamor to work in the organization. It is important to note that the salary depends on the staff level as it varies based on rank.

Moreover, it was gathered that field workers and engineers earn more than those working in the offices. Another factor that comes into play in the NNPC salary structure is the level of experience one has gathered. As staff get older and move from one level to the other, salary increment also comes along with it. The salary of an entry-level officer is different from that of an experienced newly hired officer. It should also be noted that these figures may change with time.

Interns

Today, fresh graduates are sometimes required to also have a few years of experience. This has made students start learning all they can whenever they meet with an internship opportunity. With this program, students can acquire hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge from professionals in their related fields. As expected, IT students are paid the lowest in the NNPC salary structure. They earn an average salary between N18,000 to N30,000 monthly.

Entry-Level Workers

The entry-level, which are fresh graduates, is the most basic level in NNPC. On an average estimate, a graduate trainee or entry-level worker in NNPC earns between N180,000 – N350, 000 which is also dependent on the experience level and job specification. These figures do not include other incentives and bonuses, which sometimes double their take-home by month-end.

Managers and Experienced Workers

These are reportedly the highest-paid workers in NNPC. For obvious reasons, the experienced level is where workers enjoy very high payment and numerous benefits. Just as the name goes, experience is of utmost importance in all walks of life and cannot be bought with money. On average, experienced workers in NNPC earn between N500k to N1 million monthly, depending on their job specification, rank, and experience level. Meanwhile, some high-ranking managers are said to be making over N2 million per month.

Below is a table that shows the NNPC monthly salary structure for their three major levels of workers.

S/N Levels Monthly salary
1. Interns N18,000 – N30,000
2. Entry-Level Staff N180,000 – N350, 000
3. Experienced Staff/Managers N500,000 – N1,000,000

NNPC Allowances and Incentives

In addition to the high salary structure, NNPC staff get incentives that are said to be way more than their salaries. So, you can now see why people fight tooth and nail to ensure they find their feet in the door. Some believe getting employment in NNPC can lift one’s whole generation from poverty. Even though the incentives they get are not specified, it is gathered that a worker can comfortably survive on their allowances and incentives without touching their salary.

NNPC Staff are Entitled to Free Healthcare

Working at NNPC comes with lasting benefits, and access to free and quality healthcare services is one of them. They have been able to meet this need by creating the NNPC Medical Services Limited. Other Benefits and Welfare Packages Enjoyed by NNPC Staff

Besides the NNPC’s high salary and the healthcare services, here are other benefits the staff enjoy

  • Free lunch
  • Traveling opportunity
  • Technological advancement
  • Opportunity to develop new skills
  • Opportunity to own landed properties through the NNPC Property Limited

Free Lunch: When it comes to lunch, NNPC makes free provisions for its staff. Even though this might seem insignificant to some, food is essential, and working without thinking about what to eat at noon is a minus from your daily worries.

Opportunity to Own Landed Properties: In 2009, NNPC established NNPC Properties Limited, a commercial real property and infrastructure development subsidiary. It has a 3rd party housing scheme for staff which is a good way through which NNPC adds value to its staff.

Technological Advancement: Talking about technological development and advancement, NNPC has indeed invested a lot of funds, time, and energy in its staff to ensure they get empowered with the required skills they need to stay relevant in the environment. Moreover, given the high rate at which the world advances in technology, workers always need to learn and grow their knowledge to remain current.

Opportunity to Develop New Skills: Similarly, the oil and gas sector is constantly evolving; thus, learning remains a continuous process. NNPC is not an industry where one gains employment and then relaxes. To ensure career progression, staff must continually learn new and relevant skills for self-development. The organization has the advantage of developing set skills that are relevant to the industry, such as oil and gas exploration, refinery management, petroleum economics, and others.

Traveling Opportunity: The nature of the NNPC job gives geographical flexibility to the staff. They have various opportunities to travel both within and outside the country.

Indeed, one can comfortably say that working with NNPC comes with many mouth-watering packages. However, there is a price that comes along with all these benefits, and one of them is long working hours. Over time, NNPC staff have never seized to complain of having to work for long hours and only have a very short break time. But, some people still maintain that this is a small price compared to the enormous benefits.
