Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has stated that Nigerians’ love for President Buhari is so much that millions will be willing to foot the President medical bills in London should he become incapable of paying it.
Okorocha spoke against the backdrop of comments by Nigerians berating the President for using taxpayers’ money to sponsor his frequent medical sojourn abroad.
In a chat with newsmen, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congresses, APC, Governors’ Forum, said:
“If today there is an announcement that President Buhari lacks the money to treat himself abroad, believe me, more than 20 million Nigerians will contribute for his health.
“So, this is neither here nor there. We must understand what and who he represents. President Buhari will not naturally lack funds. People support him when the need arises. He is a man who lives for the people. He does not live for himself.
“Buhari must be seen as a great Nigerian who has made uttermost sacrifice in many ramifications. You can see that from his family.
“You can see that from his family, his children. He does not discuss wealth. So anytime he needs money, I am sure millions of Nigerians will contribute even if it is one kobo for his health.”
Buhari has been in London, United Kingdom, UK, since May 7, a situation that has continued to cause controversy in the country as the president has been away for over 50 days for medical treatment, although details and nature of his ill health have not been made public.
Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state alleged that the president has been on life support ever since he left for London last month.
Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has, however, said President Buhari was recovering and not on life support.
