The Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has come under serious tongue lashing by Nigerians who described one of his campaign strategies as “cheap politics of deceit.”
Governor Obiona and his wife were seen last weekend cruising around Awka, in a tricycle popularly known as Keke Napep.
As the Anambra State Governorship election approaches (precisely in November), Mr. Obiano is on a quest for a second term in office, hence he is using the humblest means necessary to reach out to the people.
However, this did not augur well with some Nigerians who said such method is bogus and hypocritical.
A social media user, Emmanuel Abba who commented on the issue said:
“That is what politicians do when they need your vote. Once they are there, they will use military to “whip” you to the roadside when they are passing.
Another user, Odum Ezeigbo described it as a vote begging strategy. According to him, “our politicians are foolish by employing the same strategy all the time.”
“Politicians can do stupid things to win the election but when they won they will forget keke people,” said another social media user.
“Now he has remembered that tricycle exists. My dear able governor, please find something to convince us with,” King Emma said.
Meanwhile, Evang Chinedu Obigwe, the National Coordinator Media Warriors Forum has come to the defence of Mr. Obiano and describing him as an unbiased leader who believes in equity and even distribution of dividends of good governance.
Mr. Obigwe said this in responses to the allegation stating that governor Willie Obiano built 35 roads project in Aguleri – his home town.
“His Excellency does not practice tribalism or have an interest best described as centrifugal rather centripetal,” Obige said.
“He always move to the centre to perform his constitutional duties of providing amenities to his people generally. He has no interest of his home town in particular and that is why he is the most loved governor in Nigeria and a governor who places Anambra people first before himself or his kindred.
The Evangelist insisted that Anambra opposition party leaders are a bunch of desperate power seekers who do not care about the interest of the people of the State.
“As election is around the corner, opposition party leader’s desperation for power made them deploy undemocratic means and acts to unseat Governor Willie Obiano. But the people of the State will stop their evil plans by voting en mass for Obiano coming November 18th”, he said.
