Other Facts About Delta State University

Delta State University, abbreviated as DELSU, is one of the most popular state-owned universities in Nigeria. It is recognized by the National Universities Commission of Nigeria. The school ranks as the 49th best university in the country and is located in the South-Southern part of Nigeria, precisely in Delta State. DELSU was founded in 1992 by the then governor of Delta State, Felix Ibru. He changed what used to be known as a College of Education into the now Delta State University main campus, Abraka. The school has another campus in Anwai, Asaba. By 1995, a third campus was built in Oleh.

Although it was known as one of the universities in Nigeria with the highest rate of cult activities, the Vice-Chancellor in 2019 claimed that was not the case anymore. Cultism exists in almost every tertiary institution in the country, but it is more common in some, and DELSU was regarded as one of them. However, Prof. Victor Peretomode said during a pre-convocation media briefing in 2019 that cultism was no longer rampant due to strict security measures put in place.

As a state-owned tertiary institution, the school has a fee structure different from what is obtainable in other states and schools in the country. For a start, every student offered admission into the school will pay an acceptance fee of N30,000 for Delta State indigenes or N40, 000 for non Deltans. The fee structure also varies in terms of the course a student is offered admission to study and the course duration.

However, all these fees are not fixed as they vary over time. Therefore prospective students are advised to check with the school’s admission office to know the particular amount due to be paid for any given session.
