Musician Yemi Eberechi Alade, also known as Yemi Alade, is a Nigerian Afro pop singer who came to the glare of publicity after she won the maiden edition of the Peak Talent Show in 2009.
Since then, she has stood out and has gained public attention even more.
The ‘King of all Queens’ was born on March 13 1989 to a Yoruba father (James Alade) and an Igbo mother (Helen Uzoma) in Abia state, the main reason she is fondly called a “Yoruba-Igbo girl”
Yemi Alade was born into a family of 7 and she is the 5th child of her parents. Her father was a former commissioner of police.
Yemi schooled in Lagos, attending St Saviour British Primary School, before enrolling in Victory Grammar School, Lagos. She also obtained a degree in Geography from the University of Lagos.
Ever since her early days, Yemi has been obsessed with good music. She kept trying to write songs at every moment, whether she was happy or down and out.
The beautiful singer headlined the Super Diva’s Nite at the 2013 Calabar Festival, and was also called upon to open the 2013 edition of the televised Headies Awards ceremony (popularly referred to as the Nigerian Grammys) with an electrifying performance.
She released her first single “Fimisile” under the Jus’ Kiddin’ label.
In 2012, she joined the music label, Effyzzie Music Group, and released her single “Ghen Ghen Love”.
The next year, the star released the video for her romantic afro-R&B song “Bamboo” which was produced by Fliptyce. “Bamboo” turned into a popular wedding song until the last quarter of 2013 when she wrecked records with her most recent hit single, “Johnny”, produced by Selebobo,.
The song became an international smash hit after it was leaked. It took over the music charts in Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Liberia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and the United Kingdom, among others.
The song was named one of the best songs of 2013, though it hit the internet towards the end of the year and had no music video.
The ‘Effyzzie Music Group’ beau has since then performed across the globe, sharing the stage and songs with both international and local acts like Mary J. Blige, Shina Peters, M.I, Wizkid, Becca, May D, Waje and Yemi Sax.
