Temitope Balogun Joshua popularly referred to as TB Joshua is a prophet and Televangelist at the Synagogue Church of all nations (SCOAN). He is one of the top 5 richest pastors in Nigeria, as well as top 10 in the world. He also runs the Emmanuel TV station that is associated with SCOAN.

TB Joshua’s Early Life

He was born on Jun 12 1963 in Arigidi, Ondo state. His birth which is said to have been prophesied over 100 years before time came after a 15-month pregnancy. He also narrowly escaped death just a few days after he was born.

He attended St. Stephen’s Anglican Primary School in Arigidi-Akoko, Ondo between 1971 and 1977, at the time he was called Balogun Francis. He however was unable to complete a year of secondary education and resorted to doing enial jobs after his education was terminated.

Prophet TB Joshua’s Ministry

TB Joshua founded the Synagogue Church of All NAtions (SCOAN) after receiving a heavenly vision to begin a ministry. Although he started with just a few members, his church reportedly has an attendance of over 15,000. It was also reported that the SCOAN which is located in Ikotun-Egbe, Lagos gets more weekly visitors than the combined visitors of the Buckingham palace and Tower of London in the United Kingdom.

The SCOAN’s popularity has boosted Nigeria’s economy in its own way. The Nigerian Immigration Service stated that six out of every ten foreign travellers coming into Nigeria are bound for The SCOAN, to attend its weekly services.

Some notable persoalities such as presidents have visited the SCOAN. Some of them iclude; late Ghanaian President John Evans Atta Mills, South Africa’s Winnie Mandela, South Africa’s opposition party, EFF leader Julius Malema, the Zulu King, Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, former Malawian President Joyce Banda, Zimbabwean opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai and the late Zambian President Frederick Chiluba.

Tanzanian President John Magufuli visited The SCOAN in 2011. Days to his inauguration in November 2015, Joshua visited Tanzania where he met Magufuli, the outgoing President Jakaya Kikwete and opposition leader Edward Lowassa.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan also visited The SCOAN in September 2014 following the collapse of a guest house in the church’s premises that left at least 115 people dead.

Despite being  described as the biggest religious attraction in West Africa, the SCOAN has only one other branch in Ghana.

TB Joshua’s Healing Ministry

TB Joshua’s healing MInistry is one of the reasons many flock the Synagogue Church of All Nations. Many sign up for his prayerlines, as well as his healing sessions. He encourages viwers of his TV ministry to receive miracles through the placing of their hands on the TV screen as he ministers. Sme notable persons have claimed the healing sessions to have worked for them. Popular Nigerian celebrity, Tonto Dike said it helped her get over her smoking addiction.

TB Joshua also sells Anointing Water as well as other objects said to influence healing. These instruments are craved by many who seek healings.

He is also known for deliverance of people possessed with demons as seen on his Emmanuel Tv.

TV Ministry And Prophecies

The SCOAN’s Emmanuel TV is also one of the most-watched Televangelist ministry. It is broadcasted on a number of local TV statons acros west Africa as well as on Multichoice satelite TV services, GOTV and DSTV. The Sunday services are streamed live as people watch the minister frm different parts of the world.

His ministry also has a Youtube channel with millions of users.

TB Joshua is particularly known for his prophecies which have spun a number of controversies. He is said to have prophecied about the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan against President Muhammadu Buhari, the death of Osama bin Laden, terrorist attacks, among others.

Charity Work and Awards

TB Joshua is said to be involved in a number of Charity works. His ministry founded an NGO in Ghana called Passion for Needy. The organization was particularly active during the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

He also has a football club called My People FC where young football talents are trained, two o which have gone ahead to the National scene; Onazi Ogenyi and San Emmanuel are said to have been a part of the MY People FC.

Due to his humanitarian activities he was awarded by the Nigerian government as well as the United Nations.

He was also awarded the ambassador of Peac by the Arewa youth forum, among others.


TB Joshua is neither a member of the Christian Association of Nigeria nor the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.

Other prominent pastors in Nigeria have also been skeptical of TB Joshua’s doctrine, and have publicly denounced him.

Personal life

TB Joshua is married to Evelyn Joshua. They have three children. His eldest daughter Serah Joshua is a graduate from the London School of Economics, Department of Law and was ‘called to the bar’ in Nigeria in December 2015. His second daughter, Promise Joshua, is studying Politics and International Relations at the London School of Economics.
