Chidinma Ekile is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and performer. She is one of the strongest and most sensational vocalists Nigeria has ever seen. She is popularly called ‘Ms Kedike’ from her very popular single Kedike.
Chidinma was born on 2nd May, 1991. According to the star, she was born blind. After 16 days, she regained her sight.
The talented songstress hails from Imo State, the eastern region of Nigeria but was born and raised in Ketu, Lagos. Her family later relocated to Ikorodu. She is the last of seven children.
Her primary and secondary education were all done in Ketu, Lagos.
Chidinma was about to sit for her Post UME before she ventured into the Project Fame competition.
After the competition, the star who insists on taking education seriously enrolled into the University of Lagos. The initial idea was to study Mass Communication. Now she is a Sociology undergraduate.
Before her appearance on the third season of Project Fame, Chidinma describes herself as a regular church choir singer. Chidinma was selected alongside other contestant from over 8000 persons who applied to be taken into the academy.
The young and reserved teenager who simply loved singing gave herself a chance to grow and develop her skills. The transformation was glaring for everyone to see at each stage of the competition. Chidinma emerged the winner of Project Fame season 3 in 2010.
As her reward, she went away with a cash prize of N2.5 million, Toyota RAV4 and a one year recording deal. Ever since her success, Chidinma has become a resounding success in the Nigerian musical scene.
She has given Nigeria radio bangers such as, Jankoliko, Kedike, Emi Ni baller, Run Dia Mouth, If No Be God amongst others.
She has equally featured and collaborated with top names in the industry such as Flavour, Sound Sultan, Eldee and others. In the same way, she has also worked with top notch producers like Coghams Asuquo and Tee Y mix.
Chidinma dedicated her song Martha to her mother Martha Ekile for being there for her when doctors confirmed her blind.
The singer, who loves listening to the radio, has made it a point of interest to cater for the visually impaired. She reaches out to this group of people under the services of her non-profit foundation – Mma Foundation.
She once said:
“Today I dedicate my entire life selflessly and earnings to catering to visually impaired/blind people. Life is such a wonderful and colourful piece of art and it must feel like hell not to envision God’s creation. The Mma Charity Foundation is my little giveback to the world.”
Chidinma has shared a stage with veterans in the industry and beyond. She has performed and become popular outside the shores of Nigeria.
In 2012, she won the Kora awards as Best Female West African Act. In her acceptance speech for the award, she said:
“It was a huge honour to me. I’m grateful to God, my fans and people, who have been part of my success story. Winning KORA is a big achievement for me and I know it is the beginning of better things to come.”
In 2013, she became one of MTN Brand ambassadors.
