Transiting from what was one of the best groups in Nigeria, the “Plantashun Boiz” and going on to forge a successful career as a solo artist; 2face Ididbia has become one of the most recognized voices in the Nigerian music industry and one of the most bankable artists in Africa.
Born, Innocent UjahIdibia, 2face has actually officially denounced the stage name 2face to embrace one that is rightfully reminiscent of his years in the industry.
He selected 2baba or Tu-baba, as his new stage name, but for force of habit, a good number of fans and people still refer to the Nigerian music giant as 2face.
He initially took up the stage name 2face in 1996, citing his reason at the time as a need to separate his personal life from his business life.
He was born in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria and has taken on a career role that encapsulates everything from; singer-songwriter, record producer and entrepreneur. However, he is most known for his work as a singer and is considered one of the most decorated and successful Afro pop artists in Africa.
While studying a course in Business Administration and Management at the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, he got involved in music – performing at school shows and parties, which encompassed some other schools in the region such as the University of Nigeria and Enugu State University of Science and Technology.
2face subsequently dropped out of school to pursue music fully and a change of location and collaboration with Blackface (Ahmed Augustine Obiabo) whom he met while attending IMT and Faze (Chibuzo Oji) led to the formation of the initial three man band Plantashun Boiz which eventually became a favorite of the people before the crash and breakup.
Prior to their breakup in 2004, Platashun Boiz released two successful albums and later came back together in 2007 to release a third and final album which they named “Plan B”. They had already started their solo careers at the time of the release of the last Plantashun Boiz album.
As a solo artist, 2face released his debut solo album Face 2 Face. A second album “Grass 2 Grace” which he released in 2006 however contained a more favorable number of recognizable 2face Idibia songs, including; One Love, True Love, 4 Instance and the much loved African queen.
His collaborations with fellow artistes have also produced hit songs like. P-square’s Possibility and 9ice’s Street Credibility.
In 2010, 2face released an international version of his third album, The Unstoppable, becoming the first Nigerian artist to do so with an appropriate price. He set up his own label, Hypertek Entertainment after leaving former label Kennis Music.
