An indistinct group is currently brewing plans to stage a counter rally against the planned February 5th nationwide protest being spearheaded by award-winning musician 2face Idibia.
The counter rally which is currently buzzing social media is scheduled on the same day as the planned nationwide protest against President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration.
A picture of the planned counter rally tagged ‘MOTHER OF ALL SUPPORT RALLIES BEING ACTIVATED‘ reads:
“This is a notice to all patriotic Nigerians on a rally in support of the policies and administration of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria scheduled for the 5th of February 2017 nationwide. Details coming soon…”
More interestingly, unconfirmed reports reveal that a former Akwa Ibom State Governor and present Senator, Godswill Akpabio is the chief sponsor behind the planned massive nationwide protest being orchestrated by the hip hop artist.
Sources disclose that 2face was being used as a stooge to drive the protest aimed at smearing the Buhari-led Federal Government.
The award-winning star has been mocked to come out clean and tell Nigerians the real reason behind the protest rather than hiding under the guise of clamoring for good governance.
2face has been advised to tread carefully on the protest issue as this move might just signal the beginning of the end of his musical career.
In recent weeks, the planned protest has generated much ado in the media given that some other celebrities have queued behind the move, but as expected there have been other gainsayers kicking against it.
One of those kicking against the move is a Nigerian professor, Akindele Adetoye, who rained insults on the singer over his actions.
In a Facebook post, the professor slammed 2face, throwing his past sexcapades on his face, asking him to govern his own personal life first before going against the government. In his words;
“You are a bloody illiterate. You had sex with all manners of girls without using condoms. You impregnated them and made babies all over the place. You now want to lead a protest against the government because of lack of governance! Have you governed your own personal life? Charity, they say begins at home. Nonsense.”
Also among those kicking against the protest is Nollywood actress, Funke Adesiyan who contested and lost a House of Assembly seat in Oyo State during the 2014 general elections.
She opined that it’s not enough for Nigerians to protest, but more importantly, youths should get involved in governance. She wrote;
When people ask me why I joined politics, I tell them from the truest of my heart that it is because I got tired of how things were being done in my country. It’s not enough for us to protest, it’s more important for us, youths of this beloved nation to get involved in governance.
You could try many times before achieve it. Even if you fail all the time, you are a champion amongst those who didn’t try at all. Lets look around us, we will realize that we the youths are the driving force of our nation. We are smart, intelligent, agile and we possess many more special qualities.
Let’s not waste it protesting to a deaf horse. I hereby advice we the youths of this nation, the most important part of nation building to rise and OCCUPY governance. Contest for public offices and be the change you so desire…”
