In 1983, Ben Murray Bruce started a pageant called Miss Universe Nigeria. A few years later, in 1986, the pageantry transformed to Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN), with its first winner being Lynda Chuba, a politician and model. Even with its headquarters in Lagos, women from different parts of Nigeria have contested and won the pageantry and represented the country in many beauty competitions worldwide, including Miss World.

These queens are Miss MBGN Universe, MBGN Ecowas, MBGN Tourism, and MBGN Model. These MBGNs contest at the Miss Universe, Miss Ecowas, Miss Tourism, and Top Model, respectively.
