The 2017 MOBO Award nominations have been announced and Starboy Wizkid has broken yet another record in the international music scene.

Wizkid has been nominated for the Best International Act category alongside heavyweights Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z, Drake, Dj Khaled and Solange.

This is Wizkid’s first time as a nominee in this category. More so, he is the first Nigerian mainstream artiste to be featured on the nominee’s list for this highly coveted category award.

Wizkid was nominated in two categories at this year’s Mobo Awards as he will also be vying for the Best African Act category alongside other Nigerian acts like Maleek Berry, Mr Eazi, Davido, Tekno, Tiwa Savage and Wande Coal. Maleek Berry was also nominated in a second category for the Best Male Act.

British 24-year-old grime MC from Croydon, Stormzy is leading the way at this year’s Mobo Awards after picking up five nominations, including best male, best grime act, best album, best song and best video.

Following closely behind is the 21-year-old rapper, J Hus after bagging four nominations for best male, best album, best song and best video.

The Mobos, which celebrate “music of black origin” in the UK, are now in their 22nd year and reflect a time when the country’s black music is in rude health, with thriving rap and Afrobeats scenes alongside the long-resurgent grime. The winners will be announced in Leeds on the 29 November.
