The 62-year-old started her career in 1983 when the Nigerian film industry was still young. She became famous when her career as an actress was brought to the spotlight with her role in the 1992 movie Asewo to re Mecca. Toyin Adegbola is From Osun State, Nigeria
The actress hails from Osun State, Nigeria. However, she was born and had her early childhood in Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria. She continued her education in Osun State and went to London to complete her education.
As a child, Toyin wanted to be a nurse; however, she studied electronics and later became an actress. She had a dream of becoming a nurse just because she loved their uniform, but she later settled for her passion as an actress.

Adegbola attended Methodist Primary School Offa, Kwara State, and St Augustine Secondary School, Ilesa, Osun State, for her early and secondary school education. Since her childhood dream was to become a nurse, she applied for admission into a nursing school in Oshogbo, but she didn’t get it.
Later, the actress enrolled at Technical College Oshogbo, where she studied Electronics. Toyin did not stop there. After her graduation, she furthered her education in London, where she acquired more training in Electrical Electronics. She returned to Nigeria in 1982 after her training to gain employment in a television broadcasting network.
She Started Her Acting Career in 1978
While still a student at the Technical College, Toyin participated in school dramas in 1978 and 1979. However, she joined the movie industry fully in 1983. After her return in 1982 and her employment by New Day Television, now called Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), she rekindled her interest in acting and eventually went for it.
She participated in the in-house drama, where she was discovered by Mr. Tubosun, who invited her to star in his movie. Adegbola grabbed the opportunity immediately. While she worked in the broadcasting station, she excused herself several times for acting rehearsals.
Toyin explains in an interview that optical films were what reigned in those days. She starred in one and later many others. She combined her acting career with her job at the broadcasting station for some years. However, in 1992, at exactly 10 years of working with BCOS, she left it to concentrate fully on her acting career.
Today, we have an actress who has starred in many Nigerian movies and is still in the industry making more movies. In 1992, she starred in the movie Asewo to re Mecca, where she got her nickname (Ajoke, Asewo to re Mecca – meaning Ajoke, the prostitute who went to Mecca). The veteran actress joined politics through a political appointment in 2013. This was not part of her dreams, but it happened. As we have mentioned earlier, she wanted to be a nurse, but acting happened. That notwithstanding, Toyin Adegbola received a political appointment in 2013 to serve as a member of the Osun State Arts and Culture Council. She accepted the appointment with a good heart and saw it as an avenue to serve her people.

Toyin Adegbola is a Mother of Two
Acting made Toyin successful, but she is also a successful mother of two children and is now a grandmother. Toyin was married to her husband Anthony Kolawole Adegbola, a journalist, who she met at the television house. He worked in the Lagos branch, NTA Lagos, while she was with the Oyo branch, BCOS.
The duo fell in love and later got married to each other. Their union was blessed with two children; a boy and a girl, who both reside in Dublin, Ireland. Unfortunately, their love was cut short as the star lost her husband in 2000. She subsequently had to bring up the children alone. Her children are all grownups and doing well for themselves and have settled down with their own families. Toyin is currently not in any known relationship.
