Lota Chukwu (Real name: Ugwu Lotachukwu Jacinta Obianuju Amelia; Born on November 29, 1989, Age: 32 years old) is a Nigerian actress popular for her role as “Kiki” in the popular TV series, Jenifa’s diary.
Lota is one of the young atresses who has stolen the hearts of not only fans but made it atop filmmakers’ and directors’ wish lists through her acting talents. Lota Chukwu Hails From Enugu State in Southeast Nigeria
Ugwu Lotachukwu Jacinta Obianuju Amelia was born in Nsukka, one of the largest towns and local government areas in Enugu State, Nigeria. The 32 years old actress is the youngest of four children born to her parents, who are Nsukka natives and well-disciplined Christians. While not much is known about Lota’s siblings and parents, the actress chose to describe her parents as the top influencers of her life.
Lota may have been born in the Southeastern state of Nigeria, but she spent much of her childhood years in the southern region, particularly in the ancient city of Benin in Edo State. There, she had her primary and secondary education, after which she was admitted to the prestigious University of Benin, where she studied and graduated with a degree in Agricultural Economics and Extension Service.
Thereafter, Lota enrolled at the Royal Arts Academy in Lagos for her acting classes. It is probably at this period that she coined the stage name Lota Chukwu out of her middle name.
Lota Ventured into the Movie Industry in 2011
Lota Chukwu is today not a strange face to many Nigerians, and it’s all thanks to her decision to take a bold step into the movie world. The beautiful actress began acting in 2011, the same year she represented Yobe State in the year’s edition of The Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria.
Lota has always dreamed about being an actor and seeing an opportunity to make her dream a reality, she went for it. She got an opportunity to feature in a 2011 soap, “Studio 113″ by Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen. Taking that as a stepping stone to launch herself into the competitive industry, Lota made herself available for more movie roles.
She appeared in multiple award-winning films like “The Perfect Plan,” The Arbitration,” “Fine Girl,” “Wind Chasers,” “Iyore,” and “Spotlight.” However, she stole the spotlight when she auditioned for the TV series Jenifa’s Diary, where she got a chance to play the character role of Kiki.
Despite the competitive nature of her career, Lota never failed to seize every opportunity at her disposal to showcase her talent. She also admits that working on the set was and still is an opportunity to make a memorable impact on her career as well as on the people she happens to meet. Following her success in the series, Lota Chukwu was able to receive more roles in shows like Spotlight, Ajoche, and Enakhe.
Announcing herself to all other aspects of the entertainment industry, Lota featured in many music videos, such as Reminisce’s music video Ponmile, where she got the lead character, Ponmile, and Aramide’s music video, ‘Why So Serious’
In 2017, the actress announced her plan to extend her talent by launching a food show she tagged “Lota Takes.” The food show, according to her, is another platform that would keep her audience abreast of her life as a food and nature lover. The show has, since its inception, featured several Nigerian celebrities, including Adekunle Gold, Tosin Ajibade, Aramide, and MC Galaxy.
Lota is yet to win any notable reward for her excellence in the movie industry, but she is close to reaching her aim. So far, she has received two award nominations:
