Labaran Maku, the former Minister of Information, has urged Nigerians to applaud the former President Goodluck Jonathan for sacrificing his ambitions for the unity of the country.
Reports from Vanguard said that the ex-minister made the call shortly after the African Sun Times named Jonathan the International Person of the Year.
I want to call on Nigerians to appreciate God for sending ex-president Goodluck Jonathan to keep Nigeria safe despite predictions by some people that Nigeria will break up in 2015.
Because of God and the conduct of free and fair election by Jonathan and acceptance of defeat by Jonathan, Nigeria ended 2015 as democratic country, Nigeria ended 2015 in relatively peace with the exception of the insurgency war in the North East of Nigeria,” he said.
While, Goodluck Jonathan expressed his gratitude to the African Sun Times for the award, he noted that the Nigerian people were more deserving of this honour.
Dr Goodluck Jonathan
We, the Nigerian people put to shame naysayers and prophets of doom and in 2015, we held a most transparent, violence free and credible elections that transferred power from one political party to another and from an incumbent to the opposition, without rancour, bitterness or strife,” he said.
