How Goya Menor Began His Music Career
Goya only became a popular name in a wider populace in 2021, but for those who knew him much earlier, he was a creative singer and rapper. He began to showcase his singing prowess while at the university. The 29 years old singer and rapper has been a passionate singer since his early years, but his talent only came through during his university years when he was known for releasing some non-official hits.
After graduating from the university, Menor decided to pursue his singing career. He relocated to Lagos state to advance his career and possibly meet talented singers who may help him build his talent and introduce him to the industry. His trip to Lagos was quite beneficial to him as he was opportune to meet the popular Warri-born music rapper Erhiga Agarivbie better known by his stage name Erigga.
Together with Erigga, Goya Menor released a song together titled “Make I Yarn” in 2016. The song was massively accepted by fans, especially with Erigga being a fan favourite. The song helped to announce Goya to the music market. It helped him gain a meaningful fanbase as well.
Goya Menor released a single in 2020, which was a huge flop. Discouraged by his performance, he ventured into hyping and was one of the best Hypemen in the buzzing city of Lagos. While doing that, he also focused on revamping his music career. He decided to try it out again by making the ‘Ameno’ remix.
In 2021, Goya made it to the limelight when he released the Amena Remix, the Amapiano version, which gained massive plays and became the fans’ favourite, especially when played in clubhouses. Goya now tops currently topping the Apple music charts and Shazam playlist.
How Goya Menor Made his Amena Remix
Goya’s music career was at its lowest since he released his last single, which made no impact in the music market. Hoping to give it another try, he teamed up with Ghanaian producer, Nektunez to deliver Amena Remix.
‘Ameno’, which was originally a song by a French new-age musical project called Era, was released in June 1996 as a single from their self-titled debut album Era. The song eventually became a chart success in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland and Latin America.
The high-tempo Amapiano tune later became a huge global smash tune in the latter part of 2021, courtesy of the video-sharing app TikTok. In Nigeria, the song was widely accepted and played in many Nigerian nightclubs.
While searching for the original version of the song, Goya stumbled upon Neptunez’s Amapiano version of the song. He then collaborated with him and produced the ‘Ameno’ amapiano remix.
Since its release, the song has garnered so much appreciation not just from Africans alone but Europeans and Americans alike. The song earned the number-one spot in Apple’s Top 100 songs and garnered over 12 million views upon the release of its music video in 2021. Amena Amapiano’s remix has also been used repeatedly on TikTok videos. The feat has greatly influenced the growth of the singer’s fan base, with his Instagram followers exceeding 1.2 million.
Other Songs the Singer Has Released So Far
Following the success of Goya’s “You Wanna Bamba”, he has released a good number of songs that have topped several music charts. His song “Bounce”, which was produced by Eternal Africa, also made big hits on music charts, with its views on Youtube hitting over one million upon its release in July 2022.
Now listed among the fastest-growing artists in the Nigerian music industry, Goya has, through his songs, achieved what many of his kind have spent years building – fame. Thanks to his level of popularity, he now bags reasonable deals with notable industries in the country. A major endorsement deal he recently signed was with the German fashion brand “One Fashion”.
The deal, which was signed in July 2022, is apparently the singer’s very first endorsement deal. Although the whole dividend of the deal is still fuzzy for now, this is a great fit for the artist as it is useful to the rise of his financial status.
