Former Media Aide To GEJ, Reuben Abati Arrested By EFCC


Media Aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Reuben Abati Arrested by the EFCC.

Former presidential spokesperson and popular newspaper columnist, Mr. Reuben Abati was on Monday arrested by the EFCC.

Mr. Abati was was picked up by detectives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to reports, the former aide to president Jonathan is accused of receiving N50million from former NSA Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

Mr. Reuben Abati was arrested in Abuja by EFCC operatives.

Also under arrest is the former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed.

Reports say the EFCC operatives searched the home of the former FCT minister.

Mohammed is implicated in a series of billion-naira frauds relating to his son, as well as former First Lady Patience Jonathan.

Dr. Abati was appointed Special Adviser on Media by President Goodluck Jonathan after the 2011 general elections.

Abati who was once a panelist on a popular tv show, Patito’s Gang has taken no employment since losing his position last year.

He, however, returned to his column at The Guardian newspapers, from where he had gotten the government appointment.

On October 14 2016, Dr. Abati had published on his column an article titled: “The Spiritual Side of Aso Villa.”

Abati had in his article asserted that the seat of the presidency, President Jonathan and his government were held in “spiritual bondage” by unknown forces.

The former presidential spokesman, known for his creative writing incisively analyzed the “spiritual atmopsphere” of Aso Rock.

Reports say his latest writings may have stirred some elements in some quarters leading to Dr. Abati’s arrest.

As at press time, it is as yet unclear what charges the EFCC has against him.
