Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari has commissioned a mobile clinic programme through her pet project – Future Assured which will provide basic and essential health care services to people, especially those living in hard to reach areas of the country.
Speaking during the event at the State House, Hajiya Buhari said the programme is part of the humanitarian services of Future Assured aimed at complementing government’s efforts in health care delivery.
With this programme, Future Assured can now provide medical services to underprivileged Nigerians especially those that reside in the remotest parts of the country.
According to Aisha Buhari, with the newly launched mobile clinic, it will now be easier to organize the medical outreach frequently done by Future Assured to remote areas.
The President’s wife said the clinic would provide routine screening of chronic ailments including Vitamin A supplementation and deworming of children, as well as treatment of minor medical conditions.
It will also identify client operations that require referral to Primary Health Care and other health centers for further management or continuity of care.
So far, two of the mobile clinics are available to service FCT and its catchment areas, with additional units envisaged in the near future to service remote communities in all geographical zones.
The national coordinator of Future Assured, Kamal Mohammed, said the mobile medical outreach, is aimed at improving health and providing services in remote areas.
He disclosed that the clinic is equipped with consultation, dispensing, and observation areas as well as a mini-lab and a nursing station.
A statement by Mrs. Buhari’s office says that medical screening has held so far at Cross River, Enugu, Oyo, Ogun, Kogi, Nasarawa, Adamawa and Katsina states in order to create a sense of health consciousness among citizens, with thousands of beneficiaries checked for blood pressure, malaria, blood sugar and sickle cell. The activities will continue in other states.
Last week, Mrs Aisha Buhari’s office disclosed that through its Future Assured programme, over 6,000 persons had been trained in skills acquisition. This was made known during a courtesy visit to the President’s wife by the Northern Wives Governors Forum (NWGF).
Aisha Buhari disclosed that it cost an average of two million Naira to train between 300-400 individuals, and so far training which lasts from two to six months had held successfully in Lagos and Katsina states, whilst it is currently ongoing in Kano.
Assuring that the training programme would be extended to all the states in the federation, Mrs. Buhari also emphasized the need to empower parents to enable them meet financial obligations towards their children. She also thanked them for their prayers for the progress of the country.
Aisha Buhari also said she intended to use Future Assured to rehabilitate and empower victims of drug abuse by using some existing structures as rehabilitation centres.
The President’s wife stressed that empowering women and youths is the best way to eradicate the increasing rate of drug addiction in the north.
