Senator Dino Melaye, popularly known as the “singing senator” has made history by becoming the first serving Nigerian politician to get featured in a music video.
The controversial lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District at the Upper legislative chamber, seems to have ventured into the entertainment industry following his appearance in a new music video by Afro trap star, Kach, titled Dino.
In the recently released music video, Kach, the son of Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu praised the lifestyle of the serving senator with lyrics centered around balling with 100 dollar bills and popping champagne bottles.
The song was allegedly financed by the serving senator and the video appeared to have been shot in the senator’s residence as his fleet of exotic cars were put on display. However, the song has no political undertone as it is supposedly just a feel good song.
In an interview with Premium Times, Kach said the lawmaker inspired the song. Hear him:
“The song was produced by HOD beats. It was coined from the senator Dino Melaye. In the song, I simply talk about his glam lifestyle that is why I quote “DINO” several times in the track, in reference to the lawmaker. This upbeat, club-ready tune is definitely set to get people dancing at the push of the play button. It was a no-brainer that I also had to feature Dino in the video, which was shot in Abuja. However, the song has no political undertone, as it is supposedly just a feel good song.”
In a teaser of the video posted on his Instagram handle, Dino Melaye can be seen alighting from a convertible car donning a t-shirt with the word ‘Legend’ boldly inscribed on it.
But Nigerians do not seem pleased that a serving senator got involved in a music video and have taken to various social media platforms to express their resentments. Watch the video and read some tweets below:

This is however not Dino Melaye’s first unofficial venture into the music industry. Recall that in April 2017, shortly after the Senate committee on Ethics and Privileges cleared him in the certificate scandal, the senator uploaded a video of himself singing his now popular song – ‘Ajekun Iya’.
In March 2017, online news medium Sahara Reporters had reported that the controversial Senator never graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University as he had claimed. Harvard University and London School of Economics were quick to dissociate their institutions from him and the National Assembly website boldly stated that 43-year-old Dino completed university education way before he was born, in 1970.
Dino Melaye could hardly hide his frustration as he threatened fire and brimstone but the authorities at ABU saved the day by confirming he actually finished from the Geography department with a 3rd class.
A victorious Melaye then released a hit banger went viral. “Ajekun Iya ni o je” which reverberated across social media, also got a hilarious acapella remix.
