Comedian AY (Ayo Makun) has publicly apologized for his joke about the Kemen and TBoss sexual harassment incident, saying he was misinterpreted.

During AY’s annual Easter comedy show (Warri Again) on Sunday, he defended the disqualified BBN contestant, Kemen, ascribing the actions to ‘Konji’, saying that the only reason people were crucifying Kemen was because cameras recorded what happened.

The joke which was said in the presence of TBoss on stage and other Nigerians watching as it was streamed live, sparked outrage on social media. Many celebrities slammed the comedian describing his joke as a promotion of rape.

Even TBoss’s brother, Christopher had called AY out for the joke, saying karma awaits the comedian and his daughter(s) would get abused just like his sister TBoss was. On the other hand, TBoss tired of the prolonged controversy, urged her fans to let the issue rest saying she has forgiven Kemen.

But on his Instagram page, AY has now apologized claiming his joke was misinterpreted. Hear him:

“I know a lot of people did not see the joke before lashing on me… and no amount of me trying to explain myself would do me any good which is why I am uploading it (see below) so Nigerians and indeed all fans of the AY brand will be fully informed.

“I want to apologize to @officialTboss_, the entire Tboss nation and Nigerians who interpreted the joke to be promoting rape. It was never my intention to come across as a supporter of any form of assault to women.

“I was only touched and inspired to share the joke when I learnt that Kemen came out alongside other church members when Pastor Paul Adefarasin asked those under immense pressure to the point of wanting to commit suicide to step out for prayers. Also coupled with the fact that he had personally apologised to Tboss after he was disqualified.

“Like I said in the joke, I have a wife and a daughter, and I will never be in support of any such action that is designed to promote rape or any form of sexual assault that will demean womanhood.”

However, the 2017 edition of the AY Live show which held on Sunday night, at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, made a huge statement in the nation’s showbiz industry, with Freeze and AY as hosts while DJ Consequence provided the music.

In attendance were Big Brother Naija housemates including Bisola, CoCo Ice, Thin Tall Tony, Kemen, Debbie Rise, Uriel, Ese, Soma, T-Boss among others. Singer Tekno thrilled the crowd with his sheer energy and range of crowd favourite songs, as Davido came through with ‘Dami duro’ with fireworks all over the stage. Davido also performed his classics and his reigning song ‘IF’ to the joy of the fans and the audience went wild.
