Mrs. Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, the wife of Biafra lead activists Nnamdi Kanu, said the continued detention of her husband is an indication that President Buhari still retains his military behaviour, even as a democratic President.
Uchechi Kanu, who said she has lost faith in the Nigerian system particularly the judiciary which she no longer believes is independent, accused President Muhammadu Buhari of once more proving to the world that he has not dropped military behaviour even as a President of a country practicing democracy, quote:
“Buhari controls the law so there is no faith in the judiciary, if the masses cannot get justice from where it should be given because it is controlled by the government, then there shouldn’t be a court after all.”
In a statement from United Kingdom obtained by Vanguard, she also described Kanu’s ordeal, as a catalyst driving the new agitation for Biafra.
“The arrest of Nnamdi Kanu is the catalyst driving the new agitation. Hence, what could have taken years to achieve in terms of awareness and mobilization was achieved within a short frame of time. And this is testimony to the fact that IPOB through Radio Biafra did a lot of ground work prior to the arrest.”
Mrs Kanu pointed out the fact that the Biafra agitation has spread all over the world, awakening the interests of most people to the call of the course.
‘The whole world has Biafra on their lips both ‘for’ and ‘against’.’
She noted that it has not been easy on her emotional well being since her husband was arrested in Lagos in October 2015.
“The absence of my husband is mind-bending, it is inexplicable. I am practically a zombie but I am holding up.”
However, she expressed satisfaction with her husband’s new defense team led by Chuks Mouma SAN, noting that, the new team is working tirelessly to ensure the right justice is given. They have taken the trial to another level – the ECOWAS Court.
