President Muhammadu Buhari’s supporters under the aegis of Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO), has disclosed that the ailing President currently boasts of no less than 12.2 million voters for the 2019 election.
While inaugurating the South-West office of the Buhari Campaign Organisation in Ibadan, on Monday August 7, the supporters also named new coordinators for the organisation in the region.
Some of the coordinators vowed to campaign for the president even if he remains unfit to hit the campaign trail when electioneering season opens for 2019, Daily Trust reported.
In what was described as a silent revolution of the country’s fortunes, the organisation, led by its national coordinator, Mr. Danladi Pasali, pointed to developments in agriculture, security, corruption as evidence of good governance by the Buhari-led administration.
According to Pasali, the current administration’s achievements such as; the 19 states in the North, among others in the South-East and South-West exporting rice and the defeat of the Boko Haram terrorist group were worth celebrating.
The BCO said the South-West had always played a vital role in the politics of the country, adding that it was one of the backbones behind the success of the campaign organisation of Buhari in the last presidential election.
“We all know that the birthplace of this organisation is here in the South-West, it was nursed and brought up here. The South-West have always supported the President whose pious concern is to reshape Nigeria and free it from all forms of unpatriotic activities.
“Buhari is concerned with putting the country in a proper and realistic system so that the future of the next generation is guaranteed,” he said.
Pasali also disclosed that the organisation would, as part of its strategy to woo voters, assist farmers to get direct loans from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Noting that President Buhari who has been receiving medical care for unknown ailments in London since May 7, had recovered and would soon return to the country, Pasali said:
“His tremendous recovery must be celebrated by giving glory to God. We would continue to pray for his safe return.”
According to Ahmed Ajibade, the patron of the organisation in the zone, though Buhari is not strong enough to withstand campaign stress and pressure, the group would work efficiently to ensure his victory in the 2019 presidential election.
“We will not allow those who will suffer Nigerians to get to the throne, the masses will not allow them. Everybody must rise in support of the President in his effort to transform Nigeria into a country of our dream. Buhari stands for honesty, simplicity and he is a straightforward person.
“Buhari stands for honesty, simplicity and he is a straightforward person. He is the only one that is capable of transforming the country at this crucial time,” Ajibade said.
During the event, the BCO also appointed coordinators from Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Oyo and Ondo states in the zone.
Present at the event were the group’s acting Deputy National Coordinator, Isaka Hassan, the acting National Secretary, Daniel Omofeso, a former Nigeria Ambassador to Qatar, Deaconess Rita Solari Inko-Tariah and a member of the organisation’s Board of Trustees, Dr. Bawa Abdulahi among others.
President Buhari’s fragile health has made it difficult for analysts to predict his prospect for a second term run, and the presidency has avoided making any public comments about the issue.
