Buhari, who was apparently distressed by the continuous pipeline bombing disclosed that the activities of the many factions of the militants have brought the country’s economy on its knees.
Speaking at the breaking-of-fast dinner with leaders and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the president further stated that what agonizes him most is the sophisticated weapons deployed by the militants.
“I honestly don’t know how many factions of the militants there are in the Niger Delta compared to the north east where you have only the Boko Haram.
The technology being deployed by the Niger Delta militants to destroy oil installations is high tech, the way they can go on high sea and international waters and target oil installations is a national problem. It is affecting development.”
He also beckoned on friends and relatives of the militants to call them to order in God’s name. The embattled president also reminded his audience the need to stabilise the waning economy and create employment.
The National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun, who spoke earlier commended President Buhari for his efforts since he took over power.
The ruling party’s leader asserted that a difficult country like Nigeria can only be effectively manned by a visionary and prescient leader like President Muhammadu Buhari. He said;
“Any meaningful development requires strong and determined leader. Things must change. Those things don’t come easily. Nigeria is clearly a difficult nation to govern.
Corruption is fighting back and change does not come easily. The way we do things must change. Our prayer is for God to give you the courage, wisdom and strength to set the new standard for the country.”
Other APC dignitaries who graced the occasion include: a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Naaba; former Vice-president Atiku Abubakar, APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Segun Oni.
The rest are: former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal Tony Momoh, former Minister of Labour, Hassan Lawal and Senator Osita Ozinaso.
In the course of the event, Buhari congratulated APC leadership in Edo State for a triumphant APC governorship primary in the state.
He said the huge success of the APC governorship primary in Edo gladdened his heart after he was previously dispirited by the bloody incident that swept many lives away in River State.
