President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday approved the appointments of Ahmed Ja’afaru as the Controller-General of the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) and Mohammed Babandede as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS)
Ja’afaru and Babandede’s appointments were contained in separate statements issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Bassey Akpanyung.

The new Immigration Boss Mohammed Babandede holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Islamic Studies, and also a Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. Prior to his appointment, the 53 year old Jigawa born Administrator was the Deputy Conptroller General, Operations & Passports, he was appointed to this position in January 2014.
Until his appointment as Controller-General of the Nigeria Prisons Service, Ahmed Ja’afaru was an Assistant Controller-General at the NPS Headquarters. He replaces Dr. Peter Ezenwa Ekpendu, who retired from the NPS after fulfiling the mandatory 35 years in service.
Babandede on the other hand replaced Martin Abeshi, who retired last week from the Service at the end of his tenure.
Mr. Babandede’s appointment is to take effect from May 15 while that of Ja’afaru took effect from May 17.
