With a sound and polished voice, the talented, fast-growing Nigerian singer-songwriter and record producer Zinoleesky took the Nigeria music scene by the storm with the release of his hit single Ma Pariwo in 2020. The singer expressed how his passion for music was boosted after famous Nigerian musician Kizz Daniel started following him on Instagram. However, he started making waves in the music industry after Naira Marley signed him to his record label, Marlian Music. Among many others, Zinoleesky hit songs include Who Knows, Caro, Are You Sure, Kilofese, On God. Here’s all to know about his biography, rise to fame, and best songs to date.
Zinoleesky’s Real Name is Oniyide Abdul Adigun
Although he is widely known by his stage name, Zinoleesky, the singer’s real name is Oniyide Abdul Adigun. Oniyide got his stage name, Zinoleesky, after his secondary education when he decided to pursue a career in music fully. Born on 21st November 1995 in Lagos State, Nigeria, Zino is originally from Ogun State in the southwestern part of Nigeria. Zino shares the same birth date with his boss Naira Marley’s twin daughters, which is why some people think and say he is a twin. He would usually post on his birthdays with a caption: happy birthday to me and my twin sisters.
He was born into a Muslim family, and his parents are Mr. and Mrs. Azeez Oluwasina. According to the singer, his mum is a businesswoman, and his dad, a civil servant. He has a very cordial relationship with his parents, especially his mom. Celebrating his birthday on his social media page, Zinoleesky wrote I just want Mom and Dad to always bless the day they brought me to this world. Zino grew up in the Agege area of Lagos State; he reportedly has brothers and sisters, but their names and what they do for a living is not public knowledge.
The Singer Has Never Been to the University
Zinoleesky is one of the few Nigerian artists who, through their breakthroughs, continue to prove to the world that talents are not only learned in institutions of higher learning but can as well be possessed right from birth. While growing up, he attended Lively Kids nursery and primary school, Agege, Lagos.
For his secondary education, he enrolled at Boys secondary school, Agege, Lagos, where he obtained his Senior School Certificate. Zino is not a university graduate. He started pursuing a career in music quite early, and after he finished secondary school, he decided not to further his education but to go into music fully.
He Developed Passion For Music At a Tender Age
In an interview with Buzz Nigeria, the young Nigerian music talent revealed that he had a set of friends in his primary school days. They used to sing other musicians’ songs as if they were theirs and also engage in a break dancing party as they sing. This they continued to do till he completed his primary education and parted ways with those particular friends of his.
Then, he moved to Boys secondary school, where he met Ibradosky and Lil Frosh, and they subsequently became friends. The three friends would usually challenge themselves with freestyle music and post the videos on their Instagram pages, not knowing that it would one day bring them to fame. On one of the occasions, Zinoleesky posted the video on his social media page, and it caught the attention of Kizz Daniel; he liked it and immediately followed Zinoleesky on Instagram. This singular act was what Zino said motivated him and his friends Ibradosky and Lil Frosh to put more genuine effort into music.
Zinoleesky Rejected Davido’s Offer to Join His DMW Record Label
In 2019, when the three rising stars began to gain massive attention in the music industry, famous Nigerian musician Davido offered them a deal to join his record label. Still, Zinoleesky turned down the offer while his friends Lil Frosh and Ibradosky accepted. He was criticized and attacked for being the first upcoming artist to reject the same offer from Davido.
However, Zinoleesky disclosed his reason for rejecting the offer after signing to Naira Marley’s record label, Marlian Music, alongside three other upcoming artists, Fabian Blu, C Black, and Mohbad. He said that he felt he does not belong to the DMW but has now found where he belongs to. Though some still dragged him, many others applauded his guts and commended his firm stand of going for exactly what he wants.
Meanwhile, Zino has been close friends with his boss Naira Marley ever since he signed to his record label. Naira Marley appeared on stage with the four young artists at the 2019 Marlians Fest, held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.
Zinoleesky Dominated the Nigerian Music Industry in 2020 with his Hit Song Ma Pariwo
Zinolessky is super talented, strong-spirited, and hardworking, which has given him a decent place in the highly competitive Nigerian music industry. After some years of struggle, Zinoleesky landed his debut in 2019 with the song Caro, and since then, he has released over 10 singles and an album titled Chrome (Eccentric) EP. He had his big break in 2019 after he dropped the single Ma Pariwo produced by Tripss.
The song released on 6th July 2020 has arguably become one of the biggest Nigerian songs of the year. Currently, it has about 15 million streams on Audiomack and over 2.7 million views on YouTube. In September 2020, popular Nigerian hip-hop artist Mayorkun did a cover of Ma Pariwo, and it has gotten 5 million streams on Audiomack.
The lyrics of the cover and additional effects brought a little different shade from the original but quite gave an interesting vibe. Though still a rising artist, Zinoleesky’s career journey has been an unhurried but consistent one. He collaborates with some well-established musicians in the industry, such as Naira Marley, Zlatan Ibile, etc., and has also been featured in many songs by other well-known artists.
