A 41-year old pastor of a popular Pentecostal church in Benin City, identified as Benjamin Bernard has been remanded in prison custody by an Ogbesun Chief Magistrate Court, for allegedly defiling his 7-year old daughter.
Benjamin Bernard is one of the presiding pastors of the church called Destiny Explosion Ministry on Constain Road, New Benin, Benin City, allegedly committed the act of incest against his third daughter on 26th January 2016.
The minor, led in evidence by the prosecuting Counsel from the State Ministry of Justice, Kenneth Ugiagbe, narrated her ordeal to the court, saying that on one occasion, that after defiling her, Bernard her father used a white handkerchief to clean her private part.
She said her father warned her not to mention it to anyone else, and threatened to kill her if she disclosed it to anybody.
Benjamin Bernard however pleaded not guilty to the offence as the court ordered his remand in custody till the next court date.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiye Omoruyi, refused to admit the cleric to bail and adjourned the case till March 16 for further hearing.
Similarly earlier in the week, in Ebonyi State, a 29-year old pastor identified as David Ibe, of Christ Command Mission in Igboeze Onicha, Onicha local government area of the state, was arrested for allegedly raping a 23-year old girl.
The pastor lured the victim into an uncompleted building at at about 9:30pm on Monday in Oruagha Umuobunna Uburu in Ohaozara local government area of the state and raped her.
The spokesperson for the Ebonyi Police Command, George Okafor, confirmed the incident and said Mr. Ibe confessed to the crime during interrogation, claiming he invested some money on the girl and that the girl refused to marry him.
