Baby Aisha Mustapha, the baby born with her heart outside the chest wall has sadly passed away. Special Adviser to Yobe State Governor on Media, Abdullah Bego, announced the death of baby Aisha in a post.
“With a deep sense of sadness, we received the news of the passing away of Baby Aisha Mustapha, born ten days ago with a severe medical condition affecting her heart.
“She was due to be taken to the University of Enugu Teaching Hospital’s Cardio-Thoracic Center today from the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) where she was hospitalized but she died in the early hours of today.
“His Excellency Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has sent his sympathies and condolences to Baby Aisha’s parents. He prays Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss. He also implores Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant them other offspring from His Grace.”
Baby Aisha who is originally from Geidam Local Government of Yobe State was delivered on the 5/06/2016 at Gonigori village of Geidam Local Government.
She was born in a hospital in Yobe State but was later moved to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital on Saturday, June 11, 2016 when it was discovered the heart of the baby was outside the chest.
The baby was named Aisha on Saturday. Medically, her condition is an incredibly rare condition and usually babies are stillborn or die within three days.
Yobe State Governor, through his media aid, Abdullahi Bego, agreed to rescue the little baby by donating the N2.5 million required for the surgery.

Many others donated towards the treatment of the baby. Among them was the First Lady of Nigeria, Hajiya Aisaha Buhari, who had also promised to take care of the cost of the operations. Baby Aisha was earlier scheduled to be flown to Ghana for the surgery.
