Nigeria and Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi has signed a very lucrative sponsorship deal with sports wear makers, Nike.
This is another major accomplishment in the young midfielder’s blooming career.
The youngster started his footballing career as a youth player on the Arsenal youth team as an unused substitute
Interestingly, Iwobi is a nephew of Nigerian ex-professional football star, Austin “Jay-Jay” Okocha.
The Arsenal talent has shown quite a lot of promise after being promoted into the Arsenal Football Club Senior team in the later part of the 2015/2016 English Premier League season.
Iwobi who turned 20 last month made the announcement of the Nike deal via a Youtube video.
I’ve Always been A Fan Of Nike – Iwobi
In the video posted on YouTube, the young midfielder talked about his long-time admiration for the Nike brand. Iwobi also revealed in the video that his first pair of boots were the Mercurial Vapours worn by the legendary Arsenal striker, Thierry Henry.
“I’ve always been a fan, and to be associated with players like Neymar, [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Mario] Gotze [who are] big players, and to say I’m involved with that is just an honour.
I remember my dad giving me my first pair of boots around the age of three…and that told me to go! Remember looking for a way to play in them, wanted to sleep in them, because I just loved them so much.
The first pair of boots I bought were the Nike Mercurial Vapours that Henri used to wear. They were red and white I remember.”
Iwobi has now joined the league of famous superstar athletes such as Lebron James, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mario Gotze and many others to sign huge endorsement deals with big sports companies.
