The Youth wing of the pan Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has praised the former military Head of States, General Ibrahim Babangida and General Yakubu Gowon for publicly expressing their support for Igbo presidency. He stated that electing an Igbo president will not only stop the agitation which resulted in a clash between agitators and the Joint Task Force that took the lives of no fewer than 11 persons, including two policemen, it will also heal the past scars left by civil war and the marginalization of Ndigbo in the affairs of the nation.
The youth wing of the pan Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo haven spoken highly of the two former military Heads of States, explained that an Igbo presidency will help in revitalizing the togetherness of the country.
Babangida had stated in a recent interview that he will support an Igbo man to become the president of the country in 2019 if he finds anyone who has a credible personality. Also, Gowon had openly for an Igbo president to pilot the affairs of Nigeria in the nearest future.
According to the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth wing, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, in an interview with Vanguard, the two former leaders are real elder statesmen.
In said bid to convince the Nigerian people and all the stakeholders that Igbo presidency would finally heal the scars left by the unfortunate civil war and the marginalization of Ndigbo in the affairs of the nation, National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth wing, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro stated the following:
“Ohanaeze youths commended the two former military heads of state for their love for the unity of Nigeria through their support for a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction.
“A Nigerian President of Igbo extraction is desirable in 2019 after President Muhammadu Buhari. An Igbo presidency will boost the unity of Nigeria. Former President Ibrahim Babangida said he will back an Igbo if he finds one; but we assured him and other Nigerians that Ndigbo have credible personalities who have the capacity to govern Nigeria.
“If we can get Senator Ike Ekeremadu as a PDP presidential candidate and Rochas Okorcocha as the APC presidential candidate in 2019, it will end the cries of marginalization, including protests by Biafra agitators.
