The Appropriation Committee of the Senate and the House of Representatives has finally laid the report of the 2017 budget before the National Assembly.
At the commencement of plenary at the Senate, the Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Danjuma Goje presented the report from the lawmakers.
The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki said this is the first time the Appropriation Bill will be presented with details, adding that soft copies will be given.
“Hard copies will be given tomorrow and the bill will be passed on Thursday,” the National Assembly tweeted.
At the House of Representatives, the Chairman of Appropriation Committee, Mustapha Dawaki also laid the report of the 2017 budget before the House in plenary.
The committee is proposing a figure of 7.44 trillion Naira for the 2017 budget instead of the 7.298 trillion Naira proposed by the executive.
The Senate had last week promised that the long waited 2017 budget will be endorsed this week. The budget report was listed in the order paper to be laid before the Senate last Thursday, but the Committee on Appropriation failed to present it.
“They are meeting with the house committee on appropriation to cross the Ts and dot the Is of the 2017 budget by harmonising and I have also been informed that by the grace of God, the budget 2017 will be laid on Tuesday,” Ahmed Lawan, senate leader, had said last week.
The deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, had also said the committees were putting final touches to the report so that the national assembly could transmit it to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on December 14, 2016, presented an N7.29tn budget before a joint session of the National Assembly.
