The live of yet another person has come to an abrupt end following a relationship that has its roots on the social media platform Facebook! In Edo State, a female gospel singer identified as Yvonne Omoarebokhae, was reportedly found dead in a hotel in Benin.
The incident was said to have happened last Friday in the hotel located on the Government Reservered Area in the state capital, owned by a former lawmaker in the Edo State House of Assembly.
Late Yvonne Omoarebokhae received an invitation from a Lagos-based pastor, Apostle Psalm Okpe, who she was said to have met on Facebook, to perform at a church programme in Warri, Delta State.
Unfortunately, few hours after the performance, the singer died at the hotel where she was reported to have been lodged by Okpe, pastor of Fresh Oil Ministry.
The husband of the deceased, Odion, narrated the story of his wife’s demise saying that she met Apostle Psalm on Facebook and after several months of chatting, she was invited last week Thursday by the pastor to perform in Warri, Delta State, where he (the pastor) allegedly told her that the she would also perform at other programmes slated to hold in Asaba and Benin.
It was also gathered that the cleric had allegedly hinted of plans to take the deceased to South Africa for another programme.
He also said that his wife, Yvonne, had called him at about 10 am on Friday informing him that she would be home soon, and did not hear from her again, only for him to receive a call from the police asking him to come to the station. According to him, the police had initially urged him to return home, but later informed him that his wife was confirmed dead at the Central Hospital, Benin, and her remains deposited in a morgue.
“At about 9:30 pm, the police used my wife’s phone to call and invite me to report at the Airport Road police station. I waited for more than two hours at the station until the police asked me to go home but I insisted on knowing the whereabouts of my wife. The DPO later told me that my wife was picked at an hotel in the GRA and rushed to the Benin Central hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
“I am yet to see the corpse of my wife to know what happened and who is responsible for her death. We have a three-year old baby at home.”
As at the time of this report, it is not known for sure where the pastor is although unconfirmed reports claims he is currently in police custody and helping with investigation.
When the State Police Commissioner, Chris Ezike, was contacted on Tuesday, he confirmed the occurrence but refused to reveal the whereabouts of the suspect saying the case was being investigated, adding that the police was not looking for anybody as they have everything they need at their disposal to carry out the investigation.
He also said a post mortem examination on the deceased Yvonne Omoarebokhae, will disclose the cause of death. Hear him:
“It is under investigation. The man is married and the woman is married. Not until a post mortem is conducted, we cannot conclude what happened. I have asked the matter to be transferred to the State CID.”
