It was a party to remember for Yeni Kuti, daughter of late Afro-beat legend, Fela Kuti, on May 24th, 2016, when she received the most priceless gift on her birthday.
The beautiful African diva, who clocked 55-years on May 22nd, but celebrated two days after, got an engagement ring from her partner of five years, Theo Lawson, as a birthday gift.

According to sources, the surprise birthday party held at the Prince of Anthony Hotels, Lagos, the same hotel where her father, Fela, initiated plans to marry his 27 wives. The party was organised by the Hotel owners; Mallam Abdul Okwechime and Akin Adeoya.
Yeni, is the eldest child of Fela Kuti and her siblings Seun Kuti, Kunle Kuti and Femi Kuti, gave an unexpected musical performance to their elder sister for turning a year older.

She is a regular host on a TV programme,“Your View” which airs on TVC. After the show, her partner picked her up from work and took her to the Prince of Anthony Hotels where he proposed to her.
Born as Oluwayeni Anikulapo-Kuti in England to a British mother, Yemi is a dancer, singer and TV presenter. She is the brain behind the idea of Felabration in honour of her late father whom she loves so much.
Yeni completed her basic and secondary education in Nigeria after leaving the United Kingdom at the age of two. She studied Journalism, however, she sang and danced in her father’s band when he was still alive. Yeni Kuti had been married before to Femi Segun. Unfortunately, he died from a power bike accident in 2014, leaving her with their only child, Rolari.
Rolari Segun is the first grandchild of Fela Kuti and was given out in marriage to an Australian, Benedict Jacka by her uncle Femi Kuti in August 2015.
Now, it’s her mother’s turn to get married. Congratulations to Yeni and Theo as they plan towards building a home together.
