Yemi Alade – The New Face Of Africa Fashion Week 2016


Organizers of the 2016 Africa Fashion Week Nigeria & Africa Fashion Week London have officially unveiled Mama Africa and Ferrari singer, Yemi Alade as its official brand ambassador.

Africa Fashion Week Nigeria (AFWN) and Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) with over six years as the biggest African-inspired fashion event in Europe, is one of the most anticipated fashion shows in Nigeria and the perfect platform for emerging designers.

The incredibly talented and beautiful Nigerian singer is a great addition to the Africa Fashion Week brand as she is expected to bring a lot of energy and drama to the upcoming AFWN from 1st July – 3rd July 2016 and AFWL 16th September – 17th September 2016 at the prestigious Eko Hotel & Suites and London Olympia, West Kensington respectively.

An elated Yemi Alade, expressing her delight at the announcement, spoke about her love for fashion in addition to her music saying; “I didn’t see it coming but it’s a stepping stone fashion-wise, an opportunity to show people what I’m about.”

She however revealed she’s been working on a fashion project collection for almost a year alongside some of the emerging designers which will be launched come July at AFWN 2016.

Yemi Alade, who is also a jewellery designer, launched her first collection of costume jewellery ‘Yemi Alade Collection’ with online jewellery retailer, Bland2Glam in 2015.

Founder of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria and London, Ronke Ademiluyi, started the fashion event in 2011 (in London where she kicked off the AFWN edition in 2014). Creating the fashion showcase in Nigeria for fresh faces, she stressed that not every designer has the means to come to London to showcase.

She revealed that a lot of young designers have been promoted and exported through the platform that seeks to put their names out via a platform that nurtures their creativity.

The 2016 edition of AFWN would comprise of five (5) different shows, brand new designers will showcase for the first time as well as more designers who will have the opportunity to break into the industry and gain a bigger platform.
