It was tragedy last weekend as unknown gunmen invaded the home of Mr. Franklin Obi, the All Progressives Congress, APC, ward 4 Chairman for Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers State at about 9pm Saturday night, beheaded him and killed his first son, 18 years old Master Bestman and his wife, Ihuoma.
The gunmen took the head of the APC leader away, while his daughter Victory cried at the sight of the gruesome killing of her dad, mum and brother.
16-years old Victory, who narrated the story of how her father, mother and brother were killed, said she hid herself somewhere in the room, from where she peeped and saw how the gunmen were cutting off her father’s head.
Last night, I was inside when I heard my mum crying. We heard the sound of a gunshot and hid somewhere in the room. I opened the curtain of my room and I saw the men cutting off my father’s head.
They (gunmen) then came to our room and ordered me and my brother to come out and as we were coming, my brother was moving slowly and they shot him. They then left with my father’s head.
It was gathered that the gunmen had earlier been sighted by some members of the community before they eventually struck.
Mr. Obi was said to have been killed after officiating as the Master of Ceremony (MC) at an APC meeting in Omoku.
The Rivers state Commissioner of police, Mr Musa Kimo, who was at the family residence of those murdered to commiserate with them, expressed deep pain over the sad incident and called for collaboration between communities and the Police to wipe out miscreants and hoodlums from the state.
I am here in Omoku this time on a sad note. It is sad in the sense that we are all bereaved. The governor, I and other security officers were in Omoku two weeks ago in search of peace. Unfortunately, violence has continued to pervade, dovetailing into kidnappings and murders.
Last night, precisely 2100 hours, one Mr. Franklin Obi, APC Chairman, Ward 4, Omoku, the wife and son were gruesomely murdered in their house. This is bad, this is a sin and totally not acceptable.
I am here to commiserate with the deceased families and also to restrategise and put pungent security measures in place in order to forestall future occurrence.
He also expressed regret that the Police was not contacted while the assailants were carrying out their evil acts but assured that the case will be properly investigated and ensure that those behind the dastardly act were arrested and brought to book.
He also lamented:
Probably if they called the Police the killers could have been arrested. At least they were there for about twenty minutes before they left.
Also, over the weekend, Minister of State for Labor and Employment, James Ocholi, was involved in a ghastly motor accident which claimed his life, that of his wife and son. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said that the remains of the late Minister has now been deposited at the morgue of the National Hospital, Abuja.
