Tupac Shakur’s Mother, Afeni Shakur Dies Aged 69


The mother of hip hop legend, Tupac Amaru Shakur, Afeni Shakur Davis has died. She fell ill on Monday the 2nd of May and died afterwards. Police confirmed that there was nothing to indicate that there was any foul play.

She was the subject of the cult classic and hip hop Mothering Sunday anthem, ‘Dear Mama’ by her son Tupac Shakur. She overcame an addiction to cocaine before guiding the estate of her son which is devoted to charities. During the time, she released eleven of her son’s posthumous albums whilst working among children.

In 2014, Afeni Shakur co-produced “Holler If Ya Hear Me,” a Broadway jukebox musical featuring her son’s works. A Tupac biopic, “All Eyez on Me,” will be released in November, with Danai Gurira cast as Shakur. Afeni Shakur served as an executive producer for the film.

She is survived by her daughter, Sekyiwa Shakur, 40.
