Sheyi Shay Turns Lecturer at University of West Indies


Who says being talented and brilliant can not work for females? Nigerian Afropop Singer, Sheyi Shay is scheduled to deliver a lecture at University of West Indies.

Currently, Seyi Shay is in Jamaica and will be delivering a lecture at the prestigious University, to students on the topic ‘Aspiring to Take on the International Entertainment Industry.’ The lecture would hold today, June 17, 2016, at the Neville Hall lecture theatre.

According to the head professor in the University Dr. Sonja, Sheyi Shay has grown into an international inspiration, she will be sharing her knowledge of the business of music and giving tips and advice on giving back and maintaining who you are in the industry.

The music star already had meetings with award-winning author Dr. Sonjah Stanley Niaah and leading Professor in Culture and Arts Dr. Caroline Cooper and was spotted hanging out with Jamaican music star, OMI, maybe a possible collaboration is on its way.

Born as Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua in London, Sheyi Shay, visited Nigeria frequently as a child and eventually attended Command High School in Maryland, Lagos.

In 2008, she became the lead singer of the now defunct pop girl group From Above. The group signed a recording deal with Sony/Columbia and was managed by Beyonce’s father, Mathew Knowles’ Music World Entertainment company.

In 2011, the 30-year old singer started working on her self-titled debut studio album. Sheyi Shay has worked with a number of producers in Nigeria, including Jay Sleek, Tee Y Mix, Del B and Cobhams Asuquo.

She first released two promotional singles from the album “Loving Your Way” and “No Le Le”, which marked her singing career in Nigeria. She finally finished and released her ‘Sheyi Shay’ album in 2015 and since then her brand and songs have been gaining recognition in Nigeria and abroad.
