The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, Shehu Garba, has come under fire for for saying that the president has treated all Nigerians equally without bias for ethnicity or religion, since his assumption of office in May, 2015.
Mr. Shehu Garba in a series of tweets was of the opinion that claims by some people that President Buhari’s administration was deepening the divide between Muslims and Christians is not only false but also playing into the hands of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists whose intention is to divide Nigerians along religious lines.
Since assuming office, President Buhari has treated all Nigerians without bias for ethnicity or religion.

He said this in response to a recent article written by the UK Telegraph, alleging that the targets of Buhari’s government are Christians and the opposition.
Considering the many appointments that have been done since Buhari’s present regime, a very good number of Nigerians are of the opinion that the president’s choice have been in favour of the northerners and Muslims.
Recently, officials of Western aid raised concerns about the manner in which the Nigerian government was handling the boko haram crisis, saying Britain’s Department for International Development contributes an estimated £870 million to Nigeria to support the government’s ability to fight Boko Haram.
However, they claimed that some of the aid is being used by Buhari to persecute Christian political rivals rather than tackling Islamist militants.
In a swift reaction, Garba disproved the report, saying the UK government gives no development aid to the Nigerian administration for use in military operations against Boko Haram. He explained that where British military support – such as intelligence – is provided, it is precisely and only, given for operations directly against BH.
The comment by Mr. Shehu Garba that Buhari has not been bias seems not to have gone down well with many Nigerians as they took to social media to criticise him. While some called him dumb, others described him as a chronic liar.

@GarShehu this statement is clearly untrue. The lopsided appointments to major offices is a clear case of ethnic bias…
